‘KUWTK’: Why Kim Kardashian Invited Tristan Thompson to Dinner and Khloe’s Surprising Reaction
When Kim Kardashian was spotted having dinner with Tristan Thompson in New York City in September 2019, fans wondered how this get together came about, considering Thompson had cheated on Kim’s sister Khloe. Now fans are getting the story behind the dinner in a clip from the new season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians — and Khloe’s reaction is surprisingly mature.
How Kim came to invite Thompson
In a new sneak peek for Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s 18th season, Kim FaceTimes Khloe with a heads up about how she accidentally invited Thompson to dinner.
“So I was leaving the Mercer Hotel and then I get a call on my cellphone from Tristan. And he was like, ‘Oh my god! I’m right next door,'” Kim explained. “And he’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘I’m gonna go have dinner with my friend.’ So, I was like, ‘Do you wanna come?'”
Khloe, understandably shocked, said, “You invited him to dinner?”
Kim saw the error of her ways, telling her sister, “Kind of. But I was just like, ‘Oh my god, what did I do?’ Should I not invite him to dinner?”
Khloe’s reaction was pretty chill
While Kim might have second-guessed her invite, her sister’s reaction was surprisingly open-minded. “I think you gotta do what’s best for you,” Khloe responded, adding, “If you want him to have a drink at the end, there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s beyond generous of you.”
Of course, Kim reiterated her view on where she stands with Thompson cheating on her sister, but admitted that she extended the offer because he’s her niece’s father.
“I don’t think what Tristan did was, obviously, right. Like, that’s not my thing and I brutalized him,” the Skims founder noted. “But, I also know that that’s True’s dad and that mom cheated on dad, you know what I mean? And all of their friends forgave mom.”
Khloe was accepting of her doing “a nice thing,” with Kim further explaining, “I think forgiveness is the best way.”
“This was like a drive-by gossip session, oh my god,” Khloe told her sister before saying goodbye.
Khloe has moved on from the drama
Despite Thompson’s cheating, Khloe has come to a place of forgiveness that allows them to co-parent their daughter True successfully.
In December, Kardashian explained more of her viewpoint of forgiveness to her critics, taking to her Instagram Story to write: “I don’t hold any negative or hateful feelings towards ANYONE! I mean that. Life is short! We are all humans trying to figure out this thing called life. Who am I to condemn anyone else? Yes, I’m allowed to feel hurt and pain. It would be unnatural for me to pretend as if I don’t. Personally, I don’t want to be carrying around a hateful heart. I crave peace in my life. Me holding onto hate is only going to hurt me in the end.”
“I want nothing but beautiful blessings for EVERYBODY that has ever been in my life. Regardless of what they have done or not done to me,” she added.
