Though there are plenty of famous celebrities on Instagram, it’s hard to find many with more influence than Kylie Jenner. The reality TV star is the fourth most followed person on the platform behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Dwayne Johnson, and Ariana Grande. At the time of this article, the Kylie Skin owner boasts over 236 million followers on the app, and that staggering number seems to increase on a daily basis.

Of course, Jenner is no stranger to millions of fans. Even before her presence on Instagram made her famous in her own right, she was surrounded by her family’s wealth and success. With an Olympian for a parent and siblings who were famous for their reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the young mom can scarcely remember a time when she wasn’t famous.

Funnily enough, Jenner can’t pinpoint a time when she became the one setting trends and gaining popularity instead of her siblings. “I think growing up I always knew that my older sisters got a lot of attention,” Jenner shared with tmrw magazine. “But I don’t really remember when it switched.” While Jenner may not remember the exact time that she became an influencer in her own right, she knows that the attention is tied to her trying out new looks and experimenting with hair and makeup.

‘I’d always had a strong fan base with the family, but when I started experimenting and these became trends, I think that’s when I realized the strength of my own influence.” Thus far, Jenner has used said influence to make herself a very wealthy woman. One only needs to look at her Instagram page to see how she uses social media to help promote her brands: Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin, in addition to showing off her lavish lifestyle.

Much has been said about the ways in which Jenner (and her famous sisters) choose to utilize their massive influence. And while Jenner claims she understands the power of her influence, she mostly is focused on being true to herself. “I’m fully aware of the influence that I have, I try to be a good role model but I mostly just try to be myself,” she revealed.

Of course, the attention can get overwhelming for Jenner sometimes. So how does she combat the intensity? According to the 23-year-old, she occasionally detoxes from Instagram and all other forms of social media in order to maintain her sanity. “It’s important to disconnect and find that balance,” she revealed. “Sometimes I have moments where it’s been a bit much and I delete all my apps, have a week or so to detox. Social media is my job, so I have love for it too, but I think it’s good for everyone to have a break.”

Clearly, Jenner has figured out a way to make social media work for her. Hopefully, her fans will heed her advice about taking breaks from Instagram and other social media platforms.
