The coronavirus has been in our lives since the beginning of 2020 and shifted our priorities significantly. Travel bans, closures, masks, social distancing, and more have all become the norm. Some have fared better than others, and that’s especially true for those that have the means and money to live a more comfortable life.

Celebrities have been outspoken about their feelings on the virus and the U.S.’s handling of it, while others have advocated for being safe. Some celebs, though, have taken advantage of their status to pull a few strings and bend a few rules. Is Kylie Jenner one of them? It seems so.

Kylie Jenner is made of money

Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, is pretty much made of money. It might not grow on trees, but it does seem to come out of her ears. Not all of it is from being born into a famous family, either, as numerous reports have stated, she is a business mogul in her own right, making her way to billionaire status with her skincare line and other endeavors. According to Forbes, she’s worth approximately $900 million these days.

At 23, she claims that it was all due to “the power of social media. I had such a strong reach before I was able to start anything.” While her celebrity status may have given her a leg up, with Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiering when she was just 10, she also has her mom’s business savvy. Jenner reportedly had the fortitude to think ahead about her cosmetics line, trademarking the phrase “Kylie Lip Kits … For the perfect pout,” two years before even starting her business.

Apparently, fame doesn’t mean following the rules

All this fame, though, doesn’t mean she’s one of those celebrities that take rules seriously. Like some others, she may have developed a ‘the rules don’t apply to me’ attitude. At the beginning of the lockdown, the U.S. Surgeon General mentioned Jenner among his call for celebs to advocate for staying home and social distancing. The intent was for people with influence to create a call to action that would hopefully inspire their fans and followers to take action to help prevent the spread of the virus at such a critical time.

While Jenner did post one such status on Twitter, that seems to be all she posted, aside from a few of her wearing her line of face masks. This may seem like a lot, spreading awareness through a tweet to her millions of fans, but her words and actions didn’t quite match up.

Jenner’s trip to Paris

One way that Jenner appeared to take advantage of her status was when she took a trip to Paris recently. Technically, no one is supposed to be traveling abroad, as there is a travel ban in place in most locations. But Jenner, being the savvy businesswoman she is, claimed a work exemption, and it worked. The trouble with this wasn’t that she needed to travel for work. It was that she brought along some friends and made a trip out of it. One look at her Instagram, and you can see pictures of her sightseeing and shopping. E Online shared more details about the trip and who tagged along.

While she may have done some work while there, taking advantage of her ability to claim a work exemption to bend the rules doesn’t look right. Even the U.S. Embassy said that France offering these exemptions is rare, so it was likely her celebrity status that helped her gain admittance. Also, visitors to the country are supposed to self-isolate for two weeks, and by the looks of her photos and the timeline of her trip, that didn’t happen either. And this isn’t the first time she’s traveled during the coronavirus crisis. She jetted off to Turks and Caicos for her birthday, along with her sisters.

Jenner isn’t the only one from the Kardashian clan that is breaking from coronavirus advice. Khloe Kardashian and Kendall Jenner have been called out by fans recently. Khloe’s fans noticed that while she was promoting social distancing, she was also partying with friends, while Kendall got blasted for posting misleading facts as well as hanging out with friends

While it may not seem fair that celebs and influencers are getting away with special rules, the reality is we all need to do our part. Even TV shows are making adjustments and adding COVID-19 to their fall line-ups to help spread awareness. And some celebs are doing their part, like the boy band BTS
