Kylie Jenner’s Carbon Footprint Is ‘Repulsive’
The public will criticize the Kardashian-Jenner clan for anything. They’ve been getting an extra dose of public judgment during the pandemic because they seem to eschew quarantine regulations. Kim Kardashian West, Khloé Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner both hosted birthday parties this year, ignoring social distancing guidelines and indoor gathering limits. Kylie Jenner has been jetting all over the world, even though the average American can’t even travel to another state without quarantining. It’s not just about coronavirus (COVID-19), either. Kylie has a huge carbon footprint, thanks to her extravagant use of her private jet.
Kylie Jenner is constantly being pictured on her private jet
Fans on Reddit recently discussed a picture of Kylie on her private jet. She’s constantly posting pics of herself or her daughter Stormi on the plane, which Kylie bought for anywhere from $50 million to $70 million, according to People. This isn’t just a run of the mill jet, either. It is decked out all in pink, Kylie’s signature color. It’s not clear what Kylie’s intentions are when she posts these pics. Some fans think she does it for clout, while others think she knows people will see her over-use of the jet as offensive. It could be that Kylie is going by the ‘all press is good press’ motto, and doesn’t care that people are bashing her as long as they’re talking.
Despite the fact that Kylie shows off the jet on her Instagram, she never really lets fans know where she’s going. That could be a security measure, or it could be that she knows fans will judge her even more harshly for going to places within driving distance.
Kylie Jenner probably flies from LA to Palm Springs on her private jet
Fans have a lot of theories on where Kylie goes on all these private jet trips. Some say she goes from LA to Palm Springs, which would be a gross misuse of a vehicle that uses that much fuel. According to one Redditor, “I’m very bored and did the math. You’d save yourself about 15/20 minutes by flying to Palm Springs over driving. If my calculations are right that’s absolutely repulsive. Repulsive anyway tbh but to save that little time? Yuck.”
Ricky Gervais recently joked about celebrities flying from LA to Palm Springs, so Kylie may not be the only celeb to skip the traffic and travel down the California coast in a private plane. As one fan pointed out, despite the close distance, there can be a lot of traffic in Cali. That could make a plane a few hours faster. Still, it hardly seems worth it when you consider the environmental impact.
Private flights like Kylie Jenner’s are a huge tax on the environment
According to Bloomberg News, a private jet gives off 20 times more carbon emissions than a commercial plane. That means by flying commercial, Kylie could reduce her carbon footprint by a ton, more than any average person could reduce their own carbon footprint for such a small change.
Kylie’s actions are only made worse by her performative activism around climate change. Although some celebs, like the former Prince Harry, have said that they plan to offset their private jet carbon emissions, it doesn’t really work like that. Offsets are often money paid that supposedly reduces carbon emissions by the same amount as was used by the jet. An offset may include money that goes toward planting enough trees to get the carbon from the flight out of the atmosphere. But climate activists argue that we as a society need to reduce all emissions, not just make up for some of them after the fact.
