Fans celebrated Lana Del Rey’s Grammy accomplishment on social media

So far, Del Rey has not won a Grammy Award. This year’s nominations brings Del Rey up to six nominations and she has the chance to take home two Grammy Awards in 2020. After the Recording Academy announced the nominations, Del Rey’s fans celebrated on Twitter.

“about to listen to norman f*cking rockwell, the grammy nominated album,” a fan tweeted.

“Lana Del Rey was nominated for AOTY for Norman F*cking Rockwell and it’s honestly what she deserves #GRAMMYs,” wrote a Twitter user.

“I’ve been a huge fan of @LanaDelRey for 8 years and to see her go from a misunderstood and mocked singer to a respected Grammy-nominated icon?! Im fucking crying tears of joy for this woman she deserves all that she’s accomplished and more #LanaDelRey,” one fan tweeted.

Lana Del Rey’s album received critical acclaim

Del Rey released Norman F*cking Rockwell in August 2019. Upon its release, the album received critical acclaim. Because of this, it makes sense the Recording Academy recognized the album.

“It would be easy for it to feel like Lana Del Rey-by-numbers but she avoids that trap by making something filled with beauty that subtly moves her sound on, ushering her into territory marked ‘timeless,'” wrote Rhian Daly in NME.

The beauty of the album particularly comes from Del Rey’s songwriting ability. On the album, Del Rey has a writing credit on 13 out of the 14 songs. She has a producing credit on 12 of the songs from the album. Therefore, the nominations for Song of the Year and Album of the Year are not surprising.

“On her elegant and complex fifth album, Lana Del Rey sings exquisitely of freedom and transformation and the wreckage of being alive. It establishes her as one of America’s greatest living songwriters,” wrote Jenn Pelly in Pitchfork.
