Showrunner Warren Leight replied to a fan on Twitter who asked if the series would return starting with Sir Toby’s (Ian McShane) trial. “I can answer this… no it won’t,” Leight said. “A lot has happened since we shut down, in New York, and in our country. First few eps will see our squad grappling with many of the losses and changes and challenges we’re all going through at this moment.”
When it comes to the premiere episode, IMDb says the episode is called “Guardians and Gladiators,” and the plot is as follows: “When the squad tries to solve an assault in Central Park, they are hampered by their own blind spots and a community that is losing trust in the police.”
How Mariska Hargitay reminded fans that season 22 is just days away
With November 12 rapidly approaching, Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson, posted to Instagram reminding her fans that the premiere is just days away. In a black and white photo of the celebrity, she’s smiling with her badge on her hip while wearing a stylish suit with white accents.

Demore Barnes, who plays Deputy Chief Christian Garland, can be seen in the background of the shot, and it almost looks like his head is on Hargitay’s shoulder. He commented with a joke and a song lyric: “🎶Put your head on my SHOOULDR…🎶.”
