When did the ‘Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ trailer announce the release date?

Lucasfilm Games announced in the Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer that the game releases on April 5, 2022. The highly-anticipated game has gone through around five years of development, delayed for various reasons.

TT Games had high ambitions from the start. They did not intend to create a game following Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Finn (John Boyega). They set out to make a Lego Star Wars game covering all nine Star Wars episodes.

However, the sheer scope of the game proved to be way more work than any previous Lego game, leading to delays. Then, when COVID shut down workplaces, the game saw more delays.

After they missed their Spring 2021 window, fans started to worry that The Skywalker Saga would get canceled.

However, Lego dived into gaming content even more in recent years, releasing a 25th anniversary set for Super Mario 64. And 2022 looks to build out the Lego and gaming brand even more.

The Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer gave fans a release date, a look at fan-favorite Gonk Droid, and Mumble Mode.

‘Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ trailer revealed ‘Mumble Mode’ for fans of ‘The Complete Saga’

When TT Games made the first Lego Star Wars game, none of the characters spoke actual words. Instead, they all mumbled.

This continued through Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy, Lego Indiana Jones, and even the original stories of Lego Batman, though they took plenty of inspiration from Michael Keaton’s Batman.

However, the Lego Minifigures started talking with Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes and Lego Lord of the Ring. They even got Marvel Universe creator Stan Lee to voice himself in the Lego Marvel Superheroes games.

As the trailer showed off Mumble Mode, TT Games wanted to bring Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga back to its roots. The voice lines disappear, and every character mumbles once again in the video game.

And the line mumbles are not the only call-back TT Games included in the trailer.

Fan-favorite joke character Gonk Droid has appeared in every single ‘Lego Star Wars’ game

While fans loved hearing characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye banter, several fans wanted the familiarity of the simpler Lego games.

That’s why TT Games created Mumble Mode and brought back the recurring gag character Gonk Droid.

With The Skywalker Saga, Gonk Droid will have a perfect track record, appearing in every Lego Star Wars game. Not even Luke Skywalker can claim that title.

The character almost never has any abilities and is the slowest moving character by far. It just waddles around, muttering, “Gonk.” However, games have never been strangers to odd characters in mechanics, just look at the Nightmare Before Christmas game.

It just wouldn’t be the ultimate Lego Star Wars game without Gonk Droid.
