Lenny Kravitz on His First Time Kissing Lisa Bonet: ‘The Feeling Was Otherworldly’
Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet waited before entering a romantic relationship. Kravitz says his first kiss with Bonet left a lasting impression.
Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet started as friends
Kravitz and Bonet formed a friendship before they started dating. In his book, Let Love Rule, Kravitz says he tried to set his romantic feelings aside and just focus on relating to her as a friend or brother. They were both dating other people at the time (Kravitz was engaged to someone else), so he took a step back and didn’t try to push romance.
Kravitz accepted their friendship, but at times it was difficult because he and Bonet were attracted to each other. Kravitz says when they first met, they “vibed immediately” and there was “magnetism” between them even though they didn’t say much. Kravtiz says he was happy they started out as friends first. He felt they did things the right way by taking it slow.

Kravitz says he was so “obsessed” with Bonet that he eventually broke off his engagement to his fiancée, Mitzi. For him, there wasn’t room in his life for both Mitzi and Bonet. He said he wasn’t willing to let Bonet go, so he ended things with Mitzi.
All Kravitz knew was that he had to be around Bonet, even if their relationship didn’t progress to something romantic. He told Mitzi that although he and Bonet weren’t sleeping together at the time, he “couldn’t stay away from her.”
The singer credits Bonet with helping him find himself and transform as an artist. He says he wasn’t being his authentic self before he met her. He abandoned the stage name he was using (Romeo Blue) and began using his real name. He also decided to get a nose ring like hers.

The first kiss between Kravitz and Bonet happened late one night when he was at the music studio. He says Bonet tripped over a cord on her way to the bathroom, and she fell into his arms. Kravitz says they looked at each other and then began kissing. According to him, “time stopped” during that moment. He described their kiss as “otherworldly.”
Kravitz says that kiss changed everything between him and Bonet. They were living together in separate rooms at the time. However, after they kissed, he moved into her room. Kravitz and Bonet immediately became a couple.
