It’s been over a year since Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus officially announced their separation after 10 years of dating. The pair met back in 2009 on the set of their film, The Last Song, and quickly discovered that their chemistry was palpable off-screen as well. For the next decade, Cyrus and Hemsworth would date off and on, getting engaged twice before finally tying the knot in December of 2018.

Rather than have a huge wedding celebration like many other celebrities, Hemsworth and Cyrus chose to have an extremely private and intimate ceremony with their family. However, they did share wedding pictures of their special day with fans. But, the marriage between the two actors was very short-lived. In August of 2019, the couple announced their separation via their PR reps. As neither of them spoke out publicly about their divorce right away, fans quickly started rumors and jumped to conclusions.

Miley Cyrus denies cheating on Liam Hemsworth

One persistent rumor was that Cyrus had been unfaithful to Hemsworth as pictures of her then-girlfriend, Kaitlynn Carter, surfaced around the time she and Hemsworth announced their separation. The rumor mill got so bad that Cyrus actually took to her Twitter page to discount the cheating rumors.

“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” the Hannah Montana alum shared. “Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will,” Cyrus shared about her relationship with Hemsworth.

The ‘Midnight Sky’ singer opens up about her divorce to Joe Rogan

In a recent interview with The Joe Rogan Experience, Cyrus opened up about how difficult it was for her to be painted as the villain in her breakup with Hemsworth. “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore,” Cyrus shared. “That’s OK, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing and just all those stories.”

Cyrus continued on to add that there’s so much about her relationship with Hemsworth that the world wasn’t privy to. “It’s just amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there’s no gap of time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this,” Cyrus stated candidly. “Like it’s not ‘One day you were happy on the carpet and the next day you were making out with your friend in Italy, what the fu*k?’. Well, there was a lot of time in between that that you didn’t see.”

Cyrus’ mom, dad, and sister all still follow Hemsworth on Instagram

Naturally, fans of Cyrus and Hemsworth likely know next to nothing about the intimate details of their relationship. But, there is one clue that might indicate that Hemsworth is still on good terms with Cyrus’ family. Though the former couple has unfollowed each other on Instagram, and Cyrus has scrubbed her profile of all traces of Hemsworth, the same can’t be said for her family.

In fact, Cyrus’ mom, Tish Cyrus, dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, and younger sister, Noah Cyrus, all still follow Hemsworth of Instagram. Furthermore, Hemsworth follows all three of them back. Though things didn’t work out for Hemsworth and the “Midnight Sky” singer, their split was likely far less dramatic than the media made it out to be.
