Lily Collins Found out Her Dad Phil Collins Was a Rock Star at Disney
Phil Collins is one of the best drummers and singers in the world. He’s released music with his band Genesis since 1970 and has had a pretty successful solo career as well. His hit song “In the Air Tonight” has become an anthem of sorts. His soundtrack for Disney’s Tarzan has touched kids since 1999.
However, before connecting with Disney, Collins had another connection to the House of Mouse, and it came about through his daughter, actor Lily Collins.
Lily Collins found out her dad Phil Collins was famous in an interesting way
By the time Lily was born in 1989, her father was already a massive rock star from the 1970s and 1980s. Most children of celebrities don’t quite realize their parents are famous right away. Lily was no different. It took a little while for her to catch on that her father was famous.
Lily told Radio Times (per the Daily Mail) in 2020 that she realized Collins was famous while on a family vacation to Disneyland when she was a child. She noticed a man in the park wearing a T-shirt with her father’s face on it. Can you imagine the level of shock she must have felt?
“I was being carried on my dad’s shoulders when this man started to walk towards us,” Lily explained. “He had my dad’s face on his T-shirt and I didn’t quite get it. Then he saw my dad and asked for a photo — and it was a really weird moment.” Eventually, Lily caught on.
“I was thinking, ‘Why does he want a picture of my dad, and why is my dad on his T-shirt?’ Slowly but surely, I started to understand.”
However, after her parents divorced in 1996, Lily’s relationship with Collins deteriorated for a bit. They rarely saw each other. Eventually, though, they were able to re-established their connection. Collins even wrote a song about her.
Lily Collins doesn’t want to star in a biopic about her father
Now Lily is just as famous as her father. She’s a successful actor who’s starred in Mirror Mirror, Tolkien, Emily in Paris, and Mank. But if a biopic about Collins rolls around, she won’t be taking it.
Lily continued to tell Radio Times that she’d stay away from a film about her father’s life because she doesn’t want to mix her personal and professional life. “I think I would want to keep that part of my life separate, but I’d be really fascinated to find out who they’d choose to play him,” she said.
She went on to say that her father is one of her biggest fans. He always gets really excited when she gets a new role. Now, Collins’s little girl is married too.
There have been big changes in the Collins family
Lily just married her long-time boyfriend, Charlie McDowell, on Sept. 4, 2021. According to Elle, the couple got married at a Hot Springs retreat in Colorado. They’d been engaged since September 2020.
Lily wrote on her social media, “I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife. On September 4th, 2021 we officially became each other’s forever. I love you beyond @charliemcdowell…”
No doubt, the couple initially bonded over being children of celebrities. McDowell is the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen.
Meanwhile, Collins has recently shared an update on his decline health. Collins told BBC Breakfast (per the Mirror) that he can barely hold a drum stick anymore. Collins says he’s “physically challenged” at the moment. He also had back surgery in 2015, his hips ache him, and he has a dropped foot, which means he has no feeling in it.
Hopefully, though, Collins was at his daughter’s wedding to walk her down the aisle. If not, we’re sure she understands her father’s level of pain. We can’t wait to see the look on Collins’s face when he gets a grandchild. Although, hopefully, it will find out its grandfather is famous in a better way than its mother.
