Who Is Playing Lily in ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot? Everything to Know About Cathy Ang

'Sex and the City' will soon return with the reboot 'And Just Like That...' The story revives some of the original characters. But some new additions appear, including Lily, played by Cathy Ang. Here's a look at this new character and the actor behind her.

The ladies are back! Sex and the City, which debuted in 1997, was a cultural phenomenon in the late ’90s and early 2000s. The award-winning HBO show followed four women — Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York, and Samantha Jones — navigating their crazy, sex-filled lives in New York City.

And soon, it’ll return with the reboot And Just Like That... The story revives some of the original characters, but, notably, Samantha is missing. However, some new additions appear, including Lily Goldenblatt, played by Cathy Ang. Here’s a look at this new character and the actor behind her.

Who is Lily Goldenblatt in ‘And Just Like That…’?

Charlotte and her husband Harry Goldenblatt had trouble conceiving, and they always wanted children. So in the 2004 series finale of Sex and the City, the couple flies to China to adopt a beautiful baby girl. That’s when we first met Lily Goldenblatt. Then we last saw her in the two films that came out in 2008 and 2010.

She was still a child, so she didn’t play a big role. However, And Just Like That… story picks up 12 years later, and Lily is now a young woman, likely in high school. Fans are excited to see how Charlotte and Harry have handled parenthood with Lily and baby sister Rose.

Who is actor Cathy Ang?

The woman behind the character is Cathy Ang. According to Deadline, she’s the rising Chinese-Filipino-American singer and actor you might recognize from Netflix’s Over the Moon. In the 2020 film, she’s the voice of Fei Fei. She’s also shown her theater chops, starring in the British rendition of Maybe Happy Ending, a popular Korean musical. She was also seen in Hulu’s Ramy as a White Castle cashier.

At the age of 25, Ang has snagged an amazing role here in the Sex and the City reboot. If it reaches the heights of the original series, it will take her career to new heights. When HBO Max announced her casting, she took to Instagram:

“And just like that… I’m crying YET AGAIN 🥲. Thank you to the @justlikethatmax family for taking me in, and giving Lily such a wonderful voice.”

HBO Max hasn’t announced a release date yet for And Just Like That… But it will be a 10-episode limited series featuring 30-minute episodes, ET Online reports. Three of the four main actors are reprising their roles. They are Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes.

Unfortunately, Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, won’t appear in the limited series. Asked about the character’s absence, Casey Bloys, the chief content officer, explained that Sam would be written out of the story in a way fans can believe.

“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” Bloys said. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

However, Cattrall hasn’t been shy in admitting she never wants to reprise her Samantha Jones role.

“Never. It’s a no from me,” she told Mail Online. “You learn lessons in life, and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.”

Along with some beloved characters, we’ll also see plenty of fresh faces when And Just Like That… finally hits TV screens.
