In the last year, Lizzo has become an incredibly popular artist because of her catchy songs and body-positive message. It’s no secret that she’s bigger than the average music star, but she’s not afraid to show her skin and the world loves her for it. In another bold kick against body shaming, Lizzo recently spoke out about the double standards held by men.

Lizzo is a confident woman

A male interviewer for Brazil’s TV Folha recently had a discussion with Lizzo, and he didn’t seem very impressed with the star. In fact, some of his questions seemed downright rude.

First, he asked the Good As Hell singer how it felt to not win all eight Grammys which she was nominated for.

“Who the f*ck expects to win all eight that you’re nominated for!” She exclaimed in response. “I won three Grammys. How many Grammys you got, ok?… I’m not gonna sit and say ‘Why didn’t I win all eight?’ I got three! Shit, I’m happy.”

And who wouldn’t be happy with three Grammys, really?

Lizzo would be popular regardless of her appearance

The interviewer then asked Lizzo how America reacted once they saw her and realized that she “didn’t follow all the conventions of beauty.” Right away, Lizzo let him know that she wouldn’t stand for anyone saying she wasn’t beautiful.

“I think they were just like, ‘Wow, she’s so beautiful. She’s perfect,'” she responded. But then she laughed and turned the question back to him.

“I mean, what is conventional beauty?” Lizzo asked. “I walk in the room and everyone stops and stares. What’s more beautiful than that?”

Next, the interviewer then asked if she thought her success was because she’s so different from what the public usually sees in the spotlight. The interviewer seemed to insinuate that her fame happened because of her size and not because she writes great music.

Unfortunately, this is an opinion Lizzo seems to get often. Fortunately, she had no problem letting him know how brilliant she is.

“I don’t think that’s why I’m successful. I’m successful because I’m very talented and I work very hard,” she said, and we absolutely know she’s right.

Lizzo’s songs are so fun and catchy that she would be a popular artist no matter what she looked like physically. The fact that she’s a body-positive role model is just a bonus.

Lizzo calls out men on double standards

The questions Lizzo faced from this TV Folha interviewer must have reminded her of the struggles women always have to deal with because she let him have it in a blast against misogyny.

“I think that women are always going to be criticized for existing in their bodies,” she said.

Lizzo then compared herself to the women who have come before her and had to deal with body criticism. She felt that she’s no different from those women who had to “literally be politicized just to be sexual.” She continued by pointing out how differences in women are often referred to as flaws. But the women who came before her fought against that attitude so that she could do what she does today and she’s incredibly grateful for that.

“So, what does that tell you about the oppressor?” Lizzo continued. “What does that tell you about men? Get it together, we don’t talk about your d**k sizes, do we? Like, ‘that’s not a conventional d**k size, it’s too small.’ We still let ya’ll asses run all over the goddamn place.”

Lizzo is one of the few public figures that truly speaks her mind without reservation and it’s incredibly refreshing. Keep it up, sexy lady!
