Just a couple of years ago, most people did not know who Lizzo was. However, in the past year, she has become an influential force in the music industry with her hit songs and uplifting message.

Lizzo has been using her newfound fame to be a symbol for body positivity. She does not change herself to fit into society’s narrow definition of beauty. Instead, Lizzo openly embraces who she is and encourages fans to be good to one’s body. And for Lizzo, a part of treating one’s body nicely also includes working out.

Lizzo is known for challenging the conventional standard of beauty

For decades, the standard of beauty has been influenced by the fashion industry, which tells women everywhere that being beautiful means being white and thin.

However, Lizzo is determined to change this by showing the world that anyone can feel beautiful in their own skin. In fact, she has credited the Internet for allowing people to define for themselves what beauty means. Instead of taking in images chosen by a select few people at the top, anyone can curate their own feed on social media to follow influencers of all shapes and sizes.

Lizzo also flaunts her body a lot on her Instagram account to challenge the widely-held belief that bigger women’s bodies are not worthy of being shown off.

She once said: “When people look at my body and be like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so brave,’ it’s like, ‘No, I’m not.’ I’m just fine. I’m just me. I’m just sexy. I don’t like it when people think it’s hard for me to see myself as beautiful. I don’t like it when people are shocked that I’m doing it.”

Lizzo did not used to be this confident when she was younger

While Lizzo seems very confident now, the singer has admitted that the process to accepting her body was not easy when she was younger.

“I would watch things on television and look at magazines and I would not see myself,” she shared. “When you don’t see yourself, you think something is wrong with you… I think that took a bigger toll on me, psychologically, growing up than what anyone could have said to me.”

At some point, Lizzo lost a lot of weight to become her smallest size yet. However, people around her still said that she needed to lose more weight. As such, Lizzo learned that no matter what her size is, she should learn to be happy with herself instead of looking for acceptance from society.

“I can be healthy and be fat,” she noted. “I can be beautiful and be fat. I can be beautiful and all of those things. And I think it’s because I learned to actually look all of my insecurities in the face, call them by their name, and fall in love with them.”

Lizzo posts a lot of videos of herself working out

These days, it seems that Lizzo does not prioritize losing weight to be anyone’s ideal type of woman. However, she enjoys working out in order for her mind and body to be healthy.

When Lizzo released her song “Fitness” in 2018, she hoped “to inspire women all over to put themselves first” and that “the next time someone has a critique about your or your body, say, ‘I don’t do this for you.'”

On her Instagram account, Lizzo posts many videos of herself doing workouts with personal trainer Marcus Ely. In some clips, she can be seen doing pull-downs with a double-cable machine. In others, she does back squats or uses a medicine ball.

Lizzo seems to work out a lot when she is on the road, which makes sense because performing on stage day after day can take a toll on one’s body. Many other singers also work out in order to maintain energy for the hectic touring life.
