Locke & Key fans have received a first look at one of season 2’s new keys. A quick teaser video on Locke & Key‘s social media shows a key that apparently gives its users physical strength. Did this “strong” key come from the Locke & Key comics, or is it something entirely new? Check out the teaser for the Netflix series below.

A ‘Locke & Key’ Season 2 video teases a new key that gives strength

The official Locke & Key Twitter account debuted the video on Sept. 19 after teasing earlier that day that it would unveil a new key. In the clip, Kinsey Locke (Emilia Jones), Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott), and Tyler Locke (Connor Jessup) wear a hefty leather belt around their waists and use a key to unlock the buckle at the top.

While wearing the belt, the kids gain super strength. Kinsey bends a table leg, while Bode carries a couch by himself, and Tyler lifts what appears to be a block of concrete beneath a bench.

“This key makes you strong,” the video teased.

The video didn’t show how the Locke kids found the key or if they’ll use it in their next battle against Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira). They’ve already located several keys within Keyhouse in season 1, including the Head Key, the Anywhere Key, the Ghost Key, the Mirror Key, and more.

The teaser also didn’t provide a name for the key, so it’s unclear if it’s a direct pull from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key comics. However, the key’s power closely resembles that of the Hercules Key, created by Hans Riffel in the comics. Bode found the Hercules Key, the Angel Key, and the Harlequin Key in a book called Keys to the Kingdom.

The Hercules Key fits into a necklace instead of a belt, but it still gives wearers three times the strength. It’s worth noting that Rendell Locke once used the Hercules Key to rescue his friends from Dodge; perhaps the Netflix series will pay homage to the comics by having Kinsey, Tyler, or Bode perform the same act.

The strength key isn’t the only new key featured in Locke & Key Season 2. Another teaser on Sept. 15 showed Gabe (Griffin Gluck) and Eden (Hallea Jone) forging a new key with a sinister-looking gargoyle or animal as the head. It’s not clear yet what the key does, but it certainly looks menacing.

In a 2020 interview with io9, showrunner Meredith Averill teased that viewers could expect plenty more keys and “things far heavier than the death” in season 2.

“We cover so much of the comics in the first season, but there’s so much of the lore that we held back on and new keys we created for the show that we’re excited to share,” Averill said. “Tonally, I think we intend to keep the show the same, but we do want to deepen the characters’ lives and the issues they’re dealing with…If you can believe it, the Locke kids are going to be dealing with things far heavier than the death of their father in season 2.”

Locke & Key Season 2 premieres on Netflix on Oct. 22.
