The season 8 super trailer for Love & Hip Hop Atlanta was released on Mar. 9 and the almost six-minute video is jam-packed with drama. The show will return on Monday, March 16 on VH1 and has both fresh and familiar faces.

The upcoming season will follow the typical relationship highs and lows among the cast – both in terms of their romantic relationships and friendships with one another. There are however a few things that stood out from the preview and here’s just a snippet of what to expect:

Mama Dee’s health

Mama Dee is a woman of a certain age but her attitude and style keep her youthful. Unfortunately oftentimes with age comes health issues and she’s no different. It’s not clear from the trailer what conditions she’s dealing with but she does reveal that she takes a number of different medications and has to undergo surgery.

Scrappy becomes concerned and insists that his mother quit drinking, which she responds that she’s given up alcohol altogether to keep her health on the right track. But not everyone is convinced that Mama Dee is done with drinking. The trailer shows friends and family discussing her drinking, and even alluding to her having a pill addiction.

Rasheeda and Kirk celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary

Rasheeda and Kirk have had the most extreme marital issues on the show. Though they’ve been married the longest, both have admitted to infidelity. Kirk’s affairs led to a child out of wedlock, which took Rasheeda time to adjust to. Through it all, they decided to fight for their marriage.

This season, they are approaching their 20-year wedding anniversary but their attention is diverted to their family when Kirk’s son is arrested and problems within their business arrive.

Scrappy and Bambi’s family problems persist

Bambi and Scrappy are married and raising their toddler son. Last season, they dealt with issues regarding Scrappy co-parenting with his ex. There was never a true resolution that both sides were happy with but it appears they have moved on.

Recent reports surfaced that the couple are expecting their second child and are happy about their impending arrival but feuding with in-laws causes stress in their relationship. Clips of Bambi and Scrappy’s mother’s argument are shown throughout the trailer and Mama Dee has an emotional conversation with Scrappy about how her strained relationship with her daughter-in-law makes her feel and affects her health.

Mimi shares relationship problems with her ex, Stevie J

Stevie J and Mimi have come a long way. Stevie is now married to R&B singer, Faith Evans, and they’ve shown how they’ve blended their families.

In a preview for the upcoming season, Stevie and Mimi are seen talking about their respective relationships, with Mimi happily acknowledging the change in Stevie since he’s become a married man. Mimi remains in a relationship with her longtime girlfriend, WNBA star Tamera Young.

They share a home and raise Mimi’s daughter together but Mimi reveals that she is not sure if marriage is in the cards for her, despite Young’s desire to be married.

Who is new to the cast?

Alexis Sky is no stranger to the Love & Hip Hop franchise – having already been featured on the Hollywood cast – but she’s new to Atlanta. She’s mainly known for her relationship and a love triangle with rapper, Fetty Wap, which resulted in their daughter’s birth.
