American Horror Story Season 10 sees many of the franchise’s fan-favorites returning in new roles. However, one well-known actor makes his American Horror Story debut in Double Feature: Macaulay Culkin. Catapulted to fame as a child star for his roles in Home Alone and My Girl, Culkin hasn’t appeared in a major franchise in quite some time. How did AHS creator Ryan Murphy convince him to sign on for season 10? Apparently, he introduced the prospect of an explicit sex scene.

Who does Macaulay Culkin play in ‘American Horror Story’ Season 10?

American Horror Story Season 10 is split into two separate parts, the first of which kicked off on Aug. 25. Dubbed Red Tide, the initial six episodes follow Harry Gardner (Finn Wittrock), his pregnant wife Doris (Lily Rabe), and their daughter Alma (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) as they seek out a fresh start in Provincetown, Mass. They soon realize something more sinister is happening in the eerie coastal town — but by the time they decide to leave, they’re already wrapped up in it.

Culkin plays Mickey, a prostitute who attempts to add Harry to his clientele while at the local pub. Mickey also struggles with drug addiction, something Belle Noir (Frances Conroy) uses as leverage over him. As far as Provincetown residents go, Mickey seems like one of the most decent neighbors the Gardners meet. His interaction with Tuberculosis Karen (Sarah Paulson) suggests he has more empathy than the town’s other residents.

Of course, whether that stays true — and what role Culkin will play in the overall plot of American Horror Story Season 10 — remains a mystery. Apparently, fans can look forward to some wild stuff ahead for Mickey though.

Ryan Murphy says Macaulay Culkin joined the FX series because of a sex scene

Culkin’s character already became a fan-favorite after hitting on Harry, and apparently, he’ll appear in an even more bawdy scene during American Horror Story Season 10. Ryan Murphy told E! News that he approached the actor with the prospect of a wild sex scene with co-star Kathy Bates. That’s apparently what sold him on the part:

“So, I have this very, very great insane part. And I asked to speak to him on the phone and he said OK. [When] I cast, I never let people read things, usually. I said, ‘OK, here’s the pitch.’ And I told them the character and I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things. And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’ So, he signed up right then and there.”

The FX series has never shied away from explicit content, but it’ll be interesting to see what appealed to Culkin so much about this particular moment.

To learn what about his explicit American Horror Story scene made Culkin join the show, fans will need to keep up with new episodes. The first two installments of season 10 already aired on Aug. 25, and they’re available to stream on Hulu. The 10-episode season will continue to drop episodes on FX every Wednesday, sending them to streaming the day after.

As of now, Culkin is only confirmed to appear in Red Tide, which should continue through Sept. 22. It’s unclear how Death Valley will connect to the first half of the season — but then, that’s just one more thing fans can look forward to finding out.
