For years, fans have been ruthlessly comparing Kenzie Ziegler to her older sibling, Maddie Ziegler. The sisters grew up in the spotlight thanks to their time on the wildly popular reality TV show, Dance Moms. Because Maddie was Abby Lee Miller’s favorite and frequently won dance competitions, tons of pressure was put on Kenzie to follow in her sister’s footsteps. But it seems that both dancers are fed up with the comparisons and Maddie recently spoke up to say that enough was enough.

Though Maddie and Kenzie are both talented dancers, the sisters have different feelings around the activity that made them famous. While Maddie hopes to dance until her dying day, Kenzie finds it to be more of a hobby and is more passionate about music. But despite their different levels of interest, Miller, as well as many Dance Moms fans, constantly compared the two. Naturally, this seriously impacted Kenzie’s self-esteem and love of dance.

Maddie Ziegler and Kenzie Ziegler are constantly compared even after leaving ‘Dance Moms’

Though the sisters chose to leave Dance Moms during the show’s sixth season, the comparisons between the two persist to this day. Fans are constantly comparing their looks and dancing abilities. In fact, some people even manage to make comments about Maddie when they are championing Kenzie. A good example of this came during the TV show, The Masked Dancer. When Kenzie was unmasked as the Tulip, Ashley Tisdale (one of the show’s judges) called Maddie amazing before letting the “Donuts” singer know that she was amazing too.

It appears that Maddie has had enough of people being less than kind to her little sister and recently took to her Instagram story to defend her. After Kenzie received backlash for an old video, in which her ex-boyfriend used a racial slur, Maddie quickly jumped to her sister’s defense.

The ‘Music’ movie star speaks out on Instagram

“My sister is my best friend in the whole world, ” Maddie began. “This has really been on my mind recently. Kenzie is the most pure-hearted girl I know. She loves hard, has the most infectious smile, and makes you laugh harder than anyone. And it absolutely breaks my heart to see the hate she receives on a daily basis. Yes we all make mistakes but guys come on, she’s a teenager!!! She’s a human being who’s gonna mess up and she continues to learn and grow.”

Continuing on, Maddie urged fans to stop comparing her and her sister. “Also please stop with the comparing me and her comments,” the Music star shared. “She’s her own person. And that’s not just recent, that’s been happening her entire life. She has her own identity, her own personality. She shouldn’t have these ‘expectations’ to live up to. She’s perfect the way she is. It just needs to stop. I’m tired of seeing the hate. It pains me seeing the state it puts her in. I love her more than anything. Thanks for listening.”

Will fans let Mackenzie be her own person?

We can certainly see why Maddie felt compelled to stick up for her sister. It’s certainly time for fans to see the siblings as individuals and recognize that they each have unique talents and skills. As Christi Lukasiak told Kenzie in Dance Moms, it’s time for fans to let her be her “own special self” and just be Mackenzie.
