It’s no secret to fans of Maddie Ziegler that Sia has become a very important part of her life. After seeing Ziegler perform on the hit Lifetime reality TV show, Dance Moms, the singer reached out to the dancer to collaborate with her. Ziegler’s dancing skills and her ability to emote made the Chandelier video go viral and since then, Ziegler has been a part of nearly all of Sia’s projects and has even gone on tour with her.

Of course, Ziegler’s relationship with Sia has extended far beyond just a professional one. Today, the pair considers one another to be family and Sia is Ziegler’s godmother. The “Move Your Body” singer has purchased the dancer a car and even pays for her 24-hour protection as she feels responsible for Ziegler’s fame. Furthermore, the pair spends copious amounts of time together even when they aren’t working.

In fact, Ziegler has been candid about the fact that she even spent a great deal of her time in lockdown with Sia. According to the Dance Moms alum, she split her time between her mother’s house and Sia’s house prior to moving into her own apartment. According to Ziegler, she loves spending time with the Australian native even now that she’s got digs of her own.

“I go over to her house all the time and just jump on her trampoline,” Ziegler shared about Sia in a recent interview with The Independent. While jumping on the trampoline is a pretty normal activity, the pair have another hobby that they do together which is slightly more abnormal. According to The Fallout star she and her godmother love watching scores and scores of pimple-popping videos on YouTube.

“It sounds so weird, but it’s literally our obsession,” Ziegler confessed. “We’ll just watch those for hours and hours.” While the pair certainly have a personal relationship beyond a professional one, they still collaborate together to this day. Recently, Sia made her directorial debut with her extremely polarizing film, Music, and Ziegler was featured as one of the film’s leads.

Though Ziegler struggled with how people would perceive her title character in Music, other collaborations with Sia seem to be relatively low stress for the former reality TV star and she admits that she feels “honored” that Sia trusts her with her vision. “I don’t feel much pressure in terms of being her face for performances because I did it at such a young age and every time I’ve worked with her, it’s just so fun,” Ziegler shared. “We are like family.”

Will the pair collaborate again after the ‘Music’ backlash?

Ziegler has also been candid about the fact that it was Sia who showed her that she could be freer in her performances. As Ziegler grew up competing in dance competitions, she was always hyper-aware of her technique and executing everything to perfection. According to Ziegler, it was Sia who taught her that she could let more of her personality shine through and just dance from the heart. Clearly, Sia has been a massive influence in the dancer’s life. It’ll be interesting to see if they continue to collaborate after the public’s reaction to Music.
