The future of Michaela Stone and Zeke Landon’s love story in Manifest is up in the air right now. NBC and Netflix have yet to officially confirm season 4 of the missing plane drama, which means viewers might never see what becomes of Manifest‘s characters. However, with every passing day, the show seems to come closer and closer to being saved after its cancellation in June.

It might not be official yet, but show creator Jeff Rake seems confident that Manifest will return. If the show does get another season, what will that mean for Michaela and Zeke?

[Spoiler alert: The following story contains minor spoilers for Manifest Seasons 2 and 3.]

Michaela and Zeke begin their marriage in ‘Manifest’ Season 3

Although Zeke (played by Matt Long) was not a Flight 828 passenger like Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh), he did have a similar experience. After allegedly freezing to death in a cave during a blizzard, Zeke awoke one year later and had Callings, bringing him to Michaela.

Michaela and Zeke eventually started seeing each other. However, unlike the Flight 828 passengers, Zeke’s death date was fast approaching. He exhibited more signs of freezing to death every day, just as he did in the cave. Feeling uncertain that Zeke had much longer to live, he and Michaela tied the knot at the end of season 2.

Then, when Michaela’s nephew, Cal Stone (Jack Messina), was kidnapped, Zeke saved his life. This act gave Zeke another chance, so he lived after his death date.

Happily married and both very much alive, Zeke and Michaela begin their lives together in Manifest Season 3. They move in together and help the rest of the Stone family try to solve the mystery of Flight 828.

Jeff Rake says Zeke won’t ‘throw in the towel’ with Michaela quite yet

Zeke might have survived his death date, but his and Michaela’s marriage was still complicated. That’s because, before Zeke, there was Jared Vasquez (J.R. Ramirez).

Before Flight 828 took off in 2013, Jared proposed to Michaela, although she had yet to accept. During Flight 828’s disappearance, Michaela was presumed dead, and Jared married Michaela’s best friend, Lourdes (Victoria Cartagena).

When Michaela returned five years later, she and Jared experienced some unresolved tension. The characters spent a night together, but Jared and Michaela ultimately did not reunite. However, it’s clear there’s still some chemistry. At the end of season 3, the two have a moment together, which Zeke notices.

According to Jeff Rake, that scene might have set the stage for more love triangle drama in a potential future season.

“I don’t think that Zeke is going to throw in the towel so easily, and I think that Michaela is deeply conflicted. We’re gonna watch that conflict play out. It would be too easy for the story, and it would be too easy for those characters to walk away from that marriage,” he told TVLine. “Things are much more complicated on Manifest. And so I would never expect Michaela or Zeke to throw the towel in on each other, nor would I expect Jared to throw in the towel…So you can expect much more heartache and tension as we continue to kind of play the sine curve of that triangle.”

It’s not clear if Zeke and Michaela’s marriage will end completely. However, many fans have rooted for Michaela and Jared, which certainly doesn’t help Zeke’s case. As Showbiz Cheat Sheet previously reported, some viewers left comments in favor of Jared on an Instagram post.

“Please decide to leave Michaela. I want her with Jared,” one person wrote.

“Can we all agree as Manifest‘s fan base that Zeke and Mik just DONT work, and she’s meant to be with Jared,” another user added.
