Tiffany Haddish had a tumultuous childhood growing up. After a car accident left her mother with a brain injury, her mother began to have violent outbursts that Haddish experienced firsthand. Haddish and her siblings would later end up in foster care as a result, where Haddish developed behavioral problems. According to Vogue, the star couldn’t read at a first-grade level and often acted out. A social worker noticed these issues and sent her to a comedy camp at the Laugh Factory to help the Girls Trip star.

Apart from her comedy bringing her fame and fortune, it also helped heal the artist heal spiritually.

“The only time I didn’t want to cry is when I was laughing,” Haddish once said. “I’ve got all these jokes about my mom, and what I’m joking about, like her abuse and all this stuff, it’s painful. When you realize, ‘My mama, she might love me, but she don’t really like me,’ you know?”

Vogue notes that Haddish would later reconcile with her mother. Her sister, who treats people with mental disabilities, currently takes care of her.

Marlon Wayans Didn’t Shower to Get Role in ‘Requiem For a Dream’

Tiffany Haddish worked with several high-profile entertainers to become one of Hollywood’s most popular comedy acts. But one such comedian she’s never had the opportunity to collaborate with was Marlon Wayans. In a fairly recent interview with Wayans himself, Haddish inquired why the Scary Movie star never hired Haddish for a role.

“I have auditioned for so many of your movies that your friends, your family’s on. Why do I never get cast?” Haddish asked Wayans while she was filling in as host for The Ellen Show. “You even made a role that said ‘Tiffany Haddish type.’ I auditioned for myself. I auditioned to play me.”

“You wasn’t right for the part,” Wayans joked.

The youngest Wayans brother then gave Haddish an honest answer without mincing words.

“Here’s what happened,” Wayans began. “You were always funny. But you were just so, you were always on 10.”

Wayans would then specify how Haddish being a bit too extra on set cost her acting roles.

“And sometimes you’d just be inappropriate. It’s like a love scene, and you want to sit on the actor’s lap and fart. And it’s like, ‘No, Tiffany. It’s not for this scene,’” he shared.

But Wayans also acknowledged that Haddish has matured into her stardom, the same way Wayans matured into his.

Why Tiffany Haddish owes Kevin Hart $300

According to USA Today, comedians Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart first met each other performing stand-up at a comedy club. Hart was on the rise during this time, meanwhile, Haddish was having a hard time making ends meet. When Hart realized that Haddish was living out of her car, he gave her $300 so Haddish could stay in a hotel.

“She was hungry,” Hard said about Haddish. “You wouldn’t be able to tell she was going through what she was going through by her appearance and her energy unless she wanted you to know that stuff. I saw a girl who was in love with opportunity and comedy.”

Although Haddish has more than enough money to pay Hart back now, Hart has since refused to accept any repayment from Haddish.
