‘Married at First Sight’: Meka Worries Her Marriage To Michael Is ‘All a Lie’

Meka Jones and Michael Watson's marriage wasn't exactly looking any more promising on the Feb. 26 episode of Lifetime's 'Married at First Sight.' Meka said she still couldn't trust Michael, while he said he didn't feel comfortable enough with her to share the full truth.

Meka Jones and Michael Watson were at odds almost immediately after they got married as strangers on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 10. After an argument on the plane to their honeymoon in Panama over what Meka considered to be Michael’s “honeymoon sex ultimatum,” the couple clashed so much that they agreed to stay in separate hotel rooms during most of the trip.

Michael and Meka eventually tentatively reconciled and moved in together when they returned to Washington, D.C. But on the Feb. 26 episode of Married at First Sight, “The ‘L’ Word,” tensions between them flared again when Meka discovered her husband had kept a secret about his career choices from her.

Michael decided not to take a new job as a school principal

Seemingly out of the blue, Michael told Meka he wouldn’t be taking his much-discussed promotion to a new position as a school principal after all.

“So there’s gonna be a little bit of a change with my schedule,” he began, as Meka looked on suspiciously. “So I decided to actually not go with the principal job at the Catholic school. I thought it was just following my best interests to move on from that position.”

“That became official just a couple of hours ago, after just a few phone calls back and forth,” Michael continued, adding hastily that he’d already accepted a position as a director at a different school. Meka questioned Michael about his offer letter and why he’d changed his mind so suddenly, but she didn’t seem satisfied with his answers.

“I’m pretty career oriented, so I was super excited when Michael told me that he was accepting a new job as a principal,” the Married at First Sight star told producers. “But now he’s turning it down? Why?”

Meka said she couldn’t trust her husband

Ultimately, Meka took the news as yet another sign that she couldn’t trust Michael fully. She thought some of his story seemed fishy or manufactured.

“How can I build a life with somebody if I don’t know what they’re being truthful about and what they’re lying about?” the Married at First Sight star asked. “Michael has lied so much about so many different things.” She added later, “A lot of my standoffishness is because I don’t trust my husband.”

But Michael insisted he’d turned down the promotion for the good of their marriage. “As we’re still building and growing, I just didn’t feel comfortable with what they were asking me to do and what they were asking me to give up,” he told Meka, who still didn’t look at all convinced.

Michael told his wife he didn’t feel comfortable enough with her to tell her the full truth

In a later heart-to-heart, Meka broached the subject of Michael’s truth-telling, or lack thereof, once again.

“The biggest thing for me is honesty. That’s literally all I need right now, is for you to be honest,” she told him.

Meka explained that she didn’t understand why they hadn’t talked about his career decision beforehand, including his choice to apply for a different job entirely.

But Michael said he hadn’t told Meka the full truth because he didn’t trust her, either. “I don’t feel 100% comfortable with you yet,” the Married at First Sight star said. “And I don’t know all there is to know about you. There’s just certain things I’d rather keep to myself.”

Michael’s wife didn’t fully buy his explanation and thought he might be deflecting. “I feel like I’m not allowed to express how I feel about Michael without him saying how he feels about me,” she lamented.

Ultimately, Meka told Michael nothing would change in their marriage if he didn’t start telling the full truth and work to earn her trust. She said she didn’t know why he came into this process if his reaction to “uncomfortable situations” was to lie or distort the truth. “I think my biggest fear in falling in love with you is that this was all a lie,” Meka confessed.

Michael took offense to his wife’s accusations, telling producers, “This notion that I’m out here just lying, it’s ridiculous. I don’t trust her, and I don’t think she’s being genuine with me. Everything feels like a setup for an ‘I got you’ moment.”
