The first official movie of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, is only a few months away from hitting theaters. The studio has already dropped a trailer for Scarlett Johansson’s first solo outing in the MCU, though Marvel has been very tight-lipped about its next project, The Eternals. Here is everything we know about when Marvel will release the first trailer for The Eternals.
‘The Eternals’ wraps filming
Marvel president Kevin Feige first announced The Eternals project in the spring of 2018. That fall, the studio hired Chloe Zhao to direct the movie and pre-production got underway.
The cast and crew started production last summer. Filming took place in various places around the world, including the Canary Islands, London, and Oxford. Filming officially wrapped up at the beginning of February.
Although Marvel has not released an official trailer for The Eternals, we have seen plenty of leaked images from the set. This includes looks at Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, and Kit Harington in action.
At CCXP in December, Marvel showed fans some footage of The Eternals, which revealed a little more about the movie’s plot. It also confirmed the earlier reports that Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) would be the MCU’s first gay superhero.
When will Marvel drop the first trailer for ‘The Eternals’?
Marvel has not said anything about the first trailer for The Eternals, but there is a good reason to believe that the studio will be releasing it soon.
According to We Got This Covered, the company that does music for most of Marvel’s trailers, Giant Apes, just announced that they have been hired to produce music for The Eternals trailer. The company did not share any details about the project, but it is officially listed on their website.
In the past, Marvel has released trailers for movies that premiere in November in April. For example, the trailer for Thor: The Dark World dropped at the end of April, while the first teaser for Doctor Strange was released at the beginning of April.
If Giant Apes really is working on music for the trailer, then it is possible that the studio releases it at some point in April. This would also be a few weeks before Black Widow hits theaters, so the timing would be perfect.
These will be the new leads ‘The Eternals’
While we wait to see when Marvel will give us the first official look at The Eternals, inside sources claim that the movie’s leads are being played by Chan and Harington.
The Eternals is all about a group of superhumans who were created by the Celestials. Their main nemesis are the Deviants, who are set to be the main antagonists in the movie. Sources also claim that the main storyline will be similar to Romeo and Juliet, only the romance will be between a human and one of the Eternals.
In this case, the insider says that fans will watch a love story between Black Knight (Harington) and Sersi (Chan). If the information is correct then The Eternals will be Marvel’s first movie in which a romance is the main plot.
Marvel, of course, has not confirmed these rumors, so we will have to wait and see how things play out.
A look at Marvel’s first gay superhero
While the studio keeps a tight lid on things, one of the cast members of The Eternals just confirmed that the film will introduce the MCU’s first same-sex relationship. In a new interview, Haaz Sleiman revealed that his character is married to Phastos (Henry), with whom he shares a family.
“I just shot a Marvel film with the first openly gay superhero, The Eternals. I’m married to the gay superhero Phastos, played by Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry, and we represent a gay family and have a child,” he shared.
Marvel has previously been very open about being more inclusive as the MCU heads into Phase 4, so it is good to see them follow through with their promises.
Unfortunately, Sleiman did not reveal any details about his character’s relationship with Phastos, but it definitely will be something to look out for in the first trailer. Let’s just hope that the trailer comes sooner rather than later.
The Eternals is scheduled to open in theaters on November 6, 2020.
