Mary-Kate Olsen’s Marriage to Her Ex-Husband Olivier Sarkozy Was Strange From the Beginning
Since leaving the acting world behind for the fashion world in the early 2000s, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been notoriously tight-lipped about their personal lives. Though the women have a billion-dollar fashion empire, they are rarely seen at high profile events.
The pair do little to no press and they hardly ever make headlines. However, amid news that Mary-Kate Olsen has just filed from divorce from her husband, Olivier Sarkozy, fans are stunned.
Olsen and the French financier have been married since 2015 and despite their massive age difference, 33-years-old and 50-years-old respectively, the pair never had any public scandals or issues. However, amid the Full House alum’s emergency divorce petition, it has become clear that things were strange between the pair from the beginning.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy are getting a divorce
The relationship has gone sour between Olsen and her husband of nearly five years. In fact, things got so bad that Olsen initially filed for divorce from the banker last month amid the coronavirus pandemic.
TMZ is reporting that the Elizabeth and James designer signed a petition for divorce on April 17. However, she was informed that due to the pandemic, New York State is not accepting divorce filings at this time, except in cases of a true emergency.
Since Olsen and Sarkozy don’t have any children together and they are both very wealthy, on the surface this might appear to be an easy split. Unfortunately, that might not be the case.
Mary-Kate Olsen’s emergency divorce petition is very concerning
Olsen has now asked for an emergency court order to get her out of her marriage to Sarkozy immediately, as things have apparently gotten bitter between the pair.
TMZ is reporting that amid the pandemic, Olsen had been living in the New York City apartment that she’d previously shared with the 50-year-old. However, after he terminated the lease without her knowledge she was given a May 18th eviction date.
In an email from Olsen’s lawyers, they are claiming that Sarkozy is trying to force her out of the home without giving her adequate time to collect her belongings and relocate, especially since the New York State Stay-At-Home order is still being enforced.
Olsen’s lawyers claim that the former actress can only protect her property is if she’s to file a divorce petition. This would automatically put a court order in place that would stop Sarkozy from throwing away her belongings. The It Takes Two actress has asked to remain in the home until May 30.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy’s marriage has always been very strange
Though the divorce may seem shocking, the Olsen twin’s marriage to Sarkozy has always been a bit strange. When they wed in 2015, they had some very interesting decor for their big day.
It’s pretty normal for celebs to ask their guests to turn in cell-phones at private events, but Olsen and Sarkozy’s wedding decor was quite shocking. “They had bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes, and everyone smoked the whole night,” a source told Page Six at the time.
We just hope this divorce doesn’t get uglier.
