‘Mayans MC’ Creator Elgin James Says There Is ‘More Action’ In the Season 4 Premiere Than In the Previous 3 Seasons

Mayans MC season 4 is almost here, and co-creator Elgin James says fans should expect an amazing premiere. The new season will begin with a two-episode special event, and James teased they are starting things off “with a bang.” The showrunner is promising fans that there will be “more action” in the premiere than in the previous three seasons, as the Mayans face off against SAMCRO from Sons of Anarchy.

‘Mayans MC’ is going to war in season 4

When Mayans MC returns for season 4, fans will finally see the Mayans face off against Sons of Anarchy’s SAMCRO. As James explained during the show’s recent TCA panel, if the club wants to make way for the future, it has to battle the past.

“I don’t think [the past] is ever going to go away. Once the water breaks the dike, I don’t know if it ever ends. I don’t know how you put that back together,” James told Deadline.

In the first look at the new season, the Mayans are going to war against SAMCRO after the murder of their Road Captain Montez (Jacob Vargas). As fans know, a Mayan didn’t directly kill Montez. But, his death was the indirect result of one of their actions.

Montez’s killer Palo (Gregory Norman Cruz) was part of the Vatos Malditos, a motorcycle club that the Mayans destroyed in the Season 2 finale.

James describes the brutal clash between the Mayans and Sons of Anarchy’s SAMCRO in the season 4 premiere as starting things “off with a bang.” He promises that they will “come out swinging” in the two-hour premiere. And this will continue throughout the entire season.

“There’s more action in the first episode than there was in the three earlier seasons,” the showrunner promised. “We will take our time and be patient because we also have to reset ourselves emotionally. But once it starts rolling again, there’s no stopping it. [The war] is definitely going to take a season, and it may take the rest of these characters a lifetime.”

Will EZ and Angel Reyes be the new leaders in ‘Mayans MC’ season 4?

James says that during season 3, cousin Bishop (Michael Irby) caused some serious damage and left the Mayans in a precarious and dangerous position. He says that Bishop let his anger, grief, and trauma dictate what happened to the club last season.

The showrunner says it’s possible that the club is in need of new leadership in season 4. He teased that fans will see “if there’s anyone that can fill that role, including, maybe, someone from this panel. You never know.”

The “someone from this panel” was a reference to Clayton Cardenas (Angel Reyes) and JD Pardo (EZ Reyes) as the possible leaders in the making.

Mayans MC season 4 premieres with a special two-hour event on FX on Tuesday, April 19. The episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
