EZ Reyes made his darkest choice yet in ‘Mayans MC’ Season 4 Episode 7

In Mayans MC Season 4 Episode 7, JD Pardo’s character EZ made his darkest decision yet. He, Angel, and Manny organized a hit on the Sons of Anarchy who were keeping watch over Les Packer in a hospital. As the Reyes brothers fled, Angel shot and killed a security guard, and EZ was recognized by his ex Gaby Castillo.

Angel and EZ took Gaby with them as they escaped the hospital. Later, when Gaby insisted that she would go to the police, EZ shot and killed her. This has already led fans to compare EZ to Jax. One viewer wrote on Twitter, “Jax never killed a woman he loved.” However, the violence Jax committed against women was arguably just as bad. Jax bashed a sex worker named Ima’s face against a table, injected his ex-wife Wendy with drugs, and killed his own mother.

‘Mayans MC’ JD Pardo points out Jax’s privilege

Despite all the comparisons, EZ really is a very different character from Jax. Pardo pointed out a significant difference between the two while live Tweeting last night’s episode. “This is what I love about this series. Jax was born w privilege. A VP, MC lineage. He was protected until he wasn’t. EZ never had any of that. He was forced to survive and find his own way.”

Jax and EZ also had very different plans for their lives during their early years. At one point in Sons of Anarchy, Jax tells his girlfriend, “Since I was five Tara all I ever wanted was a Harley and a cut.” Jax was born into Club royalty. His father was one of the First 9 — the founding members of the Sons of Anarchy.

In contrast, EZ could not have had more different plans in his early life. EZ was once the “golden boy” of his town. Intelligent and gifted, he was set to go to Stanford before he was given an eight-year prison sentence for shooting a cop. Jax is also privileged by his own skin color.

Mayans MC reminds viewers with every opening credit of the racism Latinos have faced in America. EZ had no chance of returning to his once bright future after serving time, so he followed in Angel’s footsteps and joined the Club.

Will Felipe find out EZ killed Gaby?

It seems like EZ has reached the point of no return in Mayans MC Season 4. The promo for episode 8 shows EZ telling his father Felipe, “I know who I am now.” Felipe asks, “What did you do?” Felipe will no doubt be devastated if he learns that EZ killed Gaby.

In the season 3 finale, he warned Gaby to leave town without EZ. “If anything were to happen to you, I wouldn’t be able to take it,” Felipe told her. Now Gaby is dead at the hands of his own son and the Reyes family seems more cursed than ever.

New episodes of Mayans MC Season 4 air Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
