Season 3 of Mayans M.C. has been on hold for months due to the pandemic. But this past week, it appears that the cast and crew have finally received the go-ahead to return to the set and re-start filming.

Recently, star J.D. Pardo took to Instagram to share his excitement for season 3 of the Sons of Anarchy spin-off. He told his fans that he’s finally “ready to get back to work.”

‘Mayans M.C.’ faced more production delays after the holidays

According to Nerds and Beyond, the original return date for Mayans M.C. was on January 11. But due to rising COVID cases in California, they pushed things back for another week. It appears that production finally began on January 18. However, they are taking things one day at a time and keeping a close eye on the number of COVID cases.

If things get worse at any time, they will pause filming once again. On January 3, a joint statement from SAG-AFTRA, the Joint Policy Committee, and the Producers Guild of America revealed that their top priority was keeping everyone safe.

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director David White said that all on-set productions pose some risk of injury, even without the risk of acquiring COVID. And with few hospital beds available, it’s hard to see how anyone injured on set could seek treatment. He then thanked the major studios for delaying production during this emergency.

“It is too hard to say right now when the situation may improve, but we are monitoring closely and will make sure that our members have the information they need to make the best decisions they can to protect themselves and our community,” White said.

When will season 3 premiere?

It’s been more than a year since the season 2 finale of Mayans MC aired on FX. But due to the production delays, it’s still going to be a while before fans see any new episodes. As Carter Matt points out, the most likely premiere date for season 3 would be sometime this summer.

Without any more delays, six months would be plenty of time for the cast and crew to wrap up filming. It would also be enough time for post-production and editing. If they decide to wait until the fall, that would result in a two-year gap between the end of season 2 and the start of season 3.

It makes the most sense that the network would want the show to return sooner rather than later. Plus, a summer premiere date would help Mayans M.C. avoid competition from the broadcast networks.

No matter when Mayans MC premieres, there will be an extremely long wait between seasons. As they get more episodes in the can and get closer to wrapping production, chances are the premiere buzz will begin and FX will let fans know when the Sons of Anarchy spinoff will return.

‘Mayans MC’ star JD Pardo is excited to get back to work

During the week that he was originally scheduled to go back to work, Pardo was in the gym and posting on Instagram. On January 12, Pardo posted a gym mirror selfie to show off his biceps. The actor was wearing a black, cut-off shirt, a black beanie, black headphones, and a mask.

In the caption, he let his fans know that he is gearing up to become Ezekial “EZ” Reyes once again. He also challenged fans to guess the song he was listening to, and promised a live chat with anyone who could figure it out.

“Getting ready to go back to work,” Pardo wrote. “So excited I decided to take a picture of my left bicep. Oh! I’ll tell you what….If you can guess what song I’m listening to, we will set up an IG live just you and me.”

Pardo added a hint, telling his fans that the song wasn’t on his official “work out” playlist. Instead, it was just a random song by a female singer. And he started laughing when it came on. Pardo admitted that he had forgotten the song was in his library.

One fan guessed Spice Up Your Life by the Spice Girls, which Pardo said was “close.” Another guessed Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl, which he said he loved and wasn’t the right answer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like anyone got the answer right.

The first two seasons of Mayans MC are available on Hulu.
