Meet Every Single Member of the British Royal Family

With news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement and wedding, along with Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William welcoming their third child, the British royal family has dominated the media in 2017 and 2018. The most talked-about royals have had their share of scandals throughout the years with addictions, divorce, and extramarital affairs, but these days, the Queen of England and her clan have locked down the regal living and the public’s admiration.

From Queen Elizabeth II’s 96-year old husband, Prince Philip, to Prince Charles’ younger sister, Princess Anne, meet every single member of the British royal family.

In 1952, when she was just 25 years old, Queen Elizabeth II became the Queen of England. This was never supposed to be in the cards for the long-ruling monarch. She got her crown after he father,  King George VI, passed away, but he only became King after his elder brother King Edward VIII,  abdicated the crown in 1936.

Queen Elizabeth has ruled for nearly 70 years, and though she has had some rough patches, she has sought to make the crown more modern and hip with the times. She has been married to her husband Prince Philip since 1947, and they have four children together. Her eldest son, Prince Charles, will probably step in to become king in the coming years.

A gorgeous account of Queen Elizabeth’s early years can be seen on the hit Netflix series, The Crown.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been at Queen Elizabeth’s side since 1947. The 96-year-old is actually a distance cousin of the queen’s and was initially a Prince of Greece and Denmark. Prince Philip had a sordid childhood that included a mentally ill mother, a father who abandoned his family for his French mistress, and a pair of Nazi sisters.

Born Philip Mountbatten, he was a Naval man and the Captain-General Royal of Marines until he officially retired from public life in Aug. 2017. The prince is known for having a slight temper, and no filter at all. He once told a 13-year-old boy who wanted to become an  astronaut: “You could do with losing a little bit of weight.”

Nevertheless, he’s still pretty legendary.

The future King of England is Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s eldest child. Prince Charles of Wales was very much in the center of the public’s imagination in the 1980’s and 1990’s during his tumultuous marriage with the late Princess Diana.

Since Princess Diana was so beloved, and stories of Prince Charles’ infidelity were widely known, he became the villain during their divorce. In the recent years, aside from marrying his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall in 2005, Prince Charles has stayed relativity under the radar. His sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, have stepped into the spotlight more and more.

Queen Elizabeth’s son, Prince Charles, finally married his long-time love Camilla Parker Bowels in 2005, making her the Duchess of Cornwell. The 70-year-old is the highest ranking British woman after the queen. Though Parker Bowles technically could use the title Princess of Wales, she does not use the title because Princess Diana used it. The duchess was previously married to Andrew Parker Bowles until 1995, and she has two children, a son and a daughter.

Though Prince Charles dated and wanted to marry Parker Bowles in the early ’70s, she was thought to be unsuitable for the future King of England. It has been confirmed that they maintained their affair throughout their respective marriages.

He worked as an RAF search and rescue pilot as well as a co-pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The prince attended St. Andrews University, where he met his wife, Kate Middleton. The pair has three children together, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.

Over the years, the beloved duchess has had to battle with the paparazzi and press, even receiving monetary damages and an apology when she unauthorized photos of her were taken and then leaked to the media. She and Prince William became engaged in 2010 during a trip to Kenya. They married on April 29, 2011.

33-year-old Prince Harry probably won’t ever be king, which is why he probably had a bit of a wild streak in his youth. Luckily, the red-headed prince has gotten wiser and calmed down since then. He served in the British armed forces for over a decade and even saw active duty in Afghanistan twice.

He retired from the Army in 2015 and now focuses on charitable work including the Invictus Games for injured members of the armed forces. He married American actress Meghan Markle, on May 19, 2018, and was given the title Duke of Sussex.

Actress Meghan Markle became a royal after a whirlwind romance with Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex was best known for her role as Rachel Zane on the long-running USA drama, Suits.

However, after being set up with the prince in the summer of 2016, her life changed forever. American, mixed-race, and previously married, Markle is an unlikely candidate for a royal wife. Her union with Prince Harry would have been unheard of even just a few decades ago.

However, the charming actress has won over everyone, and their wedding was a delightful event.

She was officially given the title, Princess Royal in 1987. Princess Anne has been married twice, and she even competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics in equestrian events.

She has two children with her ex-husband Mark Phillips, Peter, and Zara.
