In a proverbial break-the-internet moment, Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian released pictures of themselves posing for Kim Kardashian West’s brand, Skims. Fans widely shared and liked the shots on social media. Soon, however, Fox, Kardashian, and Kardashian West faced accusations of copying the poses from another photoshoot. Kristen Noel Crawley and former Basketball Wives star Draya Michele shared photos that bore striking similarities to the Skims photos.

In 2019, Kardashian West launched Skims, a shapewear company. With it, she sought to provide more comfortable shapewear and intimates. Since launching the company, it has risen spectacularly. The New York Times reported that the company’s valuation was $1.6 billion, meaning that it grew even through the pandemic. It also lifted Kardashian West to billionaire status.

The brand’s campaigns have featured a number of celebrities, including Kate Moss, Coi Leray, and various members of the Kardashian-Jenner family. In its latest campaign, Fox and Kardashian pose together for Skims Cotton. They wear black and white underwear in the pictures, which the company posted to its Instagram. In one photo, they pose with an apple between their mouths. In another, Kardashian feeds Fox cherries.

“I love that SKIMS really understands what women want to wear and that they want to feel sexy, confident and empowered,” Fox said in an official statement, per Nylon. “I loved being in this campaign with Kourtney, we had so much fun shooting together.”

Some allege that the photos copy an earlier shoot

Fans shared the photos shared feverishly, but the campaign also faced swift backlash. Soon after the pictures were posted, KNC Beauty founder Crawley posted a similar set of photos to her Instagram story. In them, Michele and model Tanaya Henry pose on a couch wearing lingerie. One photo shows Michele feeding Henry a cherry.

In the post, Crawley wrote, “Black women are always the blueprint, and don’t you forget it.” Michele then reposted the story.

Crawley, who was once a close friend of Kardashian West, was in a 2019 Skims campaign. It appears that since then, they have dissolved their friendship, as they don’t follow one another on social media.

Despite the apparent similarities between the images, the campaign also harkens back to a 2008 GQ photoshoot with Fox. In the photos, Fox wears a black bikini and eats a cherry. At this time, it’s not clear if the campaign drew inspiration from either of these previous shoots.

Kim Kardashian West has been accused of copying ideas before

These recent accusations are not the first time that Kardashian West has faced claims of plagiarism. In 2019, Diet Prada alleged that Kardashian West’s collab with designer Carolina Lemke was an exact replica of Emilio Pucci designs. Complex reported that Kardashian West even wore the Pucci pair prior to the eyewear collab.

Page Six reported that the beauty mogul was also accused of ripping off designers Rei Kawakubo and Demna Gvasalia. Ultimately, though, she explained that the design was an “homage,” not a steal.
