Why did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leave the British royal family?

When they announced their engagement in November 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan seemed thrilled to take on the duties as senior working royals with a modern twist. Things seemed to be going well for a time. However, by the fall of 2018 just five months after their wedding, it was clear that the British media had turned on the Sussexes.

Nothing Meghan did seemed to appease them and she was attacked at every turn for her choices including her style, her New York City-based baby shower, and everything else. Much of the rhetoric had notes of racism and misogyny. Now, Prince Harry has gotten candid about why leaving the royal fold was their only option.

“It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like. It was destroying my mental health,” Prince Harry explained during an appearance on  The Late Late Show in February 2021. “I was like, ‘This is toxic,’ so I did what any husband and what any father would do which is, ‘I need to get my family out of here,’ but we never walked away.”

What’s going on with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Foundation?

Now that they are no longer senior working royals, Meghan and Harry are branching out on their own to launch the Archewell Foundation. Originally, the couple planned to launch their new venture in 2020. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic stalled their plans. Still, we do know what to expect. In a statement the Sussexes shared,

Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.

So far, Archewell has partnered with a Texas woman’s shelter to purchase a new roof amid the winter storm. Also, they’ve partnered with the the non-profit, World Central Kitchen to end hunger.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell website just got a massive change

The Sussexes introduced their Archewell website with respective photos of their mothers Princess Diana and Doria Ragland stating, “We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, From our mothers and strangers alike.”

However, those photos have now vanished. Now there are photos of the couple during charity work along with a less personal message that reads, “Welcome to Archewell. Through our non-profit work, as well as creative activations, we drive systemic cultural change across all communities, one act of compassion at a time.”

It was rumored that Prince William had a huge issue with the photo of Princess Diana on Archewell’s site. Considering the progress the brothers have made in their relationship it’s likely the Sussexes change things to keep things amicable with the royal family.
