Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finally unveiled the name of their new charitable foundation, Archewell. The couple announced their latest project shortly after their exit from the royal family became official. While Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are looking forward to launching their new foundation, not everyone in the United Kingdom is thrilled about their endeavor.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reveal their new foundation

After months of speculation, Harry and Meghan recently announced the start of their new foundation. Archewell will replace the couple’s old charity, Sussex Royal, which they launched last year.

In March, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex filed paperwork related to Archewell, though they have yet to reveal exactly what they plan on doing with the organization in the coming months. For now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are focused on the coronavirus pandemic and helping those in need.

“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” the couple shared.

According to Express, Harry and Meghan went on to explain why they chose Archewell as the name of their new foundation. The couple revealed that the name comes from a Greek word that represents a source of action and their son’s first name, Archie.

Harry and Meghan apparently came up with the idea before they launched Sussex Royal last year. It is unclear why they didn’t go with Archewell in the first place, but they assured their followers that they will move forward with the project “when the time is right.”

Fans slam Archewell

One reason Harry and Meghan launched a new charity is because they agreed to stop using their royal titles. They can no longer use the word “royal” in any of their endeavors, which meant they had to de-activate Sussex Royal.

Although many royal watchers have been waiting to see what Harry and Meghan name their new brand, people in the UK could not care less about the foundation.

A new poll from Express asked over 13,500 people what they thought of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new charity. In response, 81 percent of the people polled said they do not care about Archewell.

“This pair become increasingly irrelevant as each day passes,” one fan commented, while another added, “What a pity there’s no option for ‘Don’t give a flying ****.’”

The negative responses in the poll far outweighed anything positive fans had to say. It also comes during a turbulent time for the world, which probably did not help Harry and Meghan’s public perception.

Harry and Meghan’s exit from the monarchy became official on March 31. The two are currently living in Los Angeles and are isolating to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle become irrelevant?

Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave the monarchy raised many questions about the future of the royal family. According to Daily Mail, experts believed that Megxit was the worst crisis to hit the royals since King Edward VIII’s abdication, and some doubted that the institution would survive beyond Prince William’s reign.

But amid the coronavirus pandemic, the royals have thrived. Following his recovery from the coronavirus, Prince Charles spoke about his experience battling the virus and showed a side of his humanity that the public rarely sees.

Queen Elizabeth also gave a stirring speech a few weeks ago, encouraging the country to stay strong. Prince William and Kate Middleton have also been doing their part behind-the-scenes, working with various charities and continuing royal engagements via video conference.

The activities of the royals have inspired unity throughout the UK and served as a reminder that the monarchy does serve a purpose in the modern era. But it has also pushed Harry and Meghan further to the periphery, as evidenced by the recent poll results.

While the royals have been active, Harry and Meghan have remained out of the spotlight in their new home of LA. The two may have grand plans about their future outside of the monarchy, but it seems as though they are becoming more and more irrelevant to the people in the UK.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not commented on the reports surrounding their departure from the royal family.
