Over the past few years, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have become one of the most popular and sought after royal couples in history. Ever since they announced that they were in a serious relationship, fans all over the world have been obsessed with their every move, and it seems as if no one can get enough.

Meghan and Prince Harry have a huge fan base, and although Prince Harry was born into royalty, Meghan grew up living a somewhat quieter life. She was famous in her own right after landing her big break as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, but her popularity was nowhere near what it was after marrying the British prince.

Suddenly, everyone was talking about Meghan’s personal life and family drama, and the Sussexes had virtually no privacy whatsoever. After the royal wedding, they surprised everyone by moving away from Kensington Palace to the countryside of Windsor, England, hoping for an escape.

Even so, they were still hounded relentlessly and had to take more severe actions. Here is how Meghan and Prince Harry‘s royal exit was inevitable regardless of their popularity or notoriety.

People leave jobs all the time, and no one gives it a second thought. However, no one was quite prepared for the announcement that was made earlier in the world, letting everyone know that Meghan and Prince Harry planned to step down from royal duties.

According to Seattle Spectator, the couple decided that enough was enough after years of being hounded by the media. On more than one occasion, Prince Harry released statements in his wife’s defense, which is only natural given what happened to his beloved mother, Princess Diana.

After Baby Archie was born a little over a year ago, Meghan and Prince Harry just couldn’t live in the glaring spotlight any longer, and their royal exit — dubbed Megxit — was announced.

The duke and duchess spent some time in Vancouver following the departure, and after quite a bit of speculation, they headed to Meghan’s hometown of LA, California to begin their new journey independent of the royal family.

Did they always plan to leave the royal family?

Prince Harry has been one of the most popular royals from the day he was born, and no one ever anticipated that the day would come when he didn’t want to do it any longer. Some people might say that Meghan knew what she was getting herself into when she married into the family, but the truth of the matter is, it is difficult for anyone to be prepared for that level of fame.

So, did they always plan to leave the royal family? According to Marie Claire, they did. Supposedly, Megxit was in the works even before Meghan and Harry were married, and it was such a shock only because they kept it strictly to themselves.

“It will make clear that far from it being a snap decision that they took a long time to make it,” a source told The Sun. “The seeds of Megxit were sown before they even got married. The truth is that Harry had been deeply unhappy for a long time. And he and Meghan openly discussed going in a different direction well before they got married.”

The fact that Megxit was planned for such a long time leads many fans to assume one thing, and that is that Meghan and Prince Harry’s exit was inevitable regardless of their popularity or notoriety. Is this actually the case?

While it is easy to say that they left because of the negative media attention, the decision was actually made because it made more sense for the couple to be independent. Financially, it is a smart move since most experts anticipate their brand to be worth billions. And, a modern couple like Meghan and Prince Harry does not want to be tied down to a long list of royal rules.

It’s likely that even if the Sussexes were showered with positive attention, they would have capitalized off their popularity and fame, and left the royal family for independence. The reality of their popularity is different, so it’s likely they merely pushed forward their inevitable plan to step down as senior royals.

Looks like they knew what they were doing from the very beginning, and we wish them all the luck in the world in their new chapter of life.
