When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex joined the British royal family, her fame skyrocketed. Though Meghan had enjoyed a certain level of recognition as an actor, her relationship with Prince Harry put her on a whole new stratosphere.

Unfortunately for Meghan, this newfound fame wasn’t always positive. Though she did everything in her power to make sure she could do well in the royal fold, she was dismissed, ostracized, and othered. Neither the press nor the British public seemed willing to accept the duchess.

Instead, she was left feeling isolated and alone. However, during a point when she was feeling ultra-low, one of the most famous women on the planet gave her a much-needed boost.

Meghan Markle struggled in the royal family when she was pregnant with Archie

During her pregnancy with Archie, which overlapped with Beyoncé’s tribute toward her, Meghan was having a very hard time. Court documents from Meghan’s privacy claim against Mail on Sunday, Associated Newspapers Limited reveal just how much Meghan was suffering. They read,

The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the Defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health. As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.

Beyoncé stood up for Meghan Markle when she needed it the most

In their book Finding Freedom, authors Carolyn Durrand and Omid Scobie revealed just how much Beyoncé was able to lift Meghan’s spirits. Meghan’s make-up artist Daniel Martin revealed that he immediately texted the duchess with the word, “girl.” Meghan’s reportedly responded with the big eye emoji.

When the Beyoncé tribute was made public, Meghan had just returned from her NYC baby shower where she was shamed and criticized about the cost of the party, though it was thrown and paid for by her good friends, Jessica Mulroney and Serena Williams. Beyoncé was able to lift the duchess spirits.

On their podcast, Royally Obsessed, royal commentator Kaitlin Menza, reflected on the moment. “Just, wow. I do wonder if Meghan knew that was coming?” she asked. “It was so great.”
