Meghan Markle wowed fans with a monochromatic look during this month’s Platinum Jubilee festivities. Many of the events the royal family attends have particular cultural significance, and this one was no exception. The Platinum Jubilee, marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne, was a multiday spectacle providing plenty of memorable moments

For the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the celebration marked a notable return to the United Kingdom for a bit of pomp and circumstance after many marked absences following “Megxit.” Though Markle still faces extreme scrutiny from critics, fans delighted at her fashion during the festivities.

Fashion plays a significant part in royal family events. And Megan Markle’s style choices prove she understands the assignment.

The duchess sported multiple looks for the days-long event, but the one that has drawn the most attention is her day 2 attire. On June 3, she and her husband, Prince Harry, attended the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. For the Platinum Jubilee event, Markle was a vision in soft white.

Town & Country describes the ensemble as “an ivory look from the Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022 collection including a belted coat and skirt set.”

Markle accessorized simply but elegantly with cream gloves and pointed-toe pumps. She wore her hair pulled back in a low knot and topped it with a Dior wide-brimmed hat. Her diamond earrings are thought to be her “oft-favored Snowflake Snowstorms from Birks.”

The Sussexes’ return to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee was notable

Megan Markle and Prince Harry’s appearance at the Platinum Jubilee was an important one. Since the couple pulled away from their royal duties, speculation has run rampant about where the two stand with the rest of the royals. Their decision to go public with accusations of racism and mistreatment has tarnished many royal family members’ reputations, and it’s rumored that this airing of the dirty laundry hasn’t sat well with those closest to the throne.

The Sussexes’ return was notable for its significance and relatively “low-key” nature, The Guardian reports. In addition, it marks the first time Lilibet — Megan and Prince Harry’s daughter — made the trip across the pond.

According to The Guardian, their placement at the event was a bit of a snub: “[A]ides appeared to have averted any such comparison [with interactions with the Cambridges] by seating the Sussexes far away from the Cambridges — and, indeed, from the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. Their place on the second row, behind the Wessexes and separated from the most senior royals by an aisle, was indicative of their reduced official status as non-working royals, despite Harry’s bloodline.”

The drama and tabloid gossip surrounding Megan Markle and Prince Harry will unlikely end soon, but that hasn’t stopped fans from both sides of the Atlantic from rallying around the young family.

Markle, in particular, has garnered praise for her impeccable style. Elle recently cataloged some of the duchess’ most iconic looks, and they’re inarguably impressive. Whether she’s visiting Harlem schools in a chic Loro Piana two-piece or brushing elbows with the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations while wearing a black top from The Row and a pencil skirt, she always looks polished and poised.

Markle’s monochromatic look for the Platinum Jubilee event is emblematic of the way she frequently presents herself. The duchess prefers simple sophistication, taking care to draw eyes without ostentation.
