Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is known for having a close relationship with her mom, Doria Ragland. In the past, they didn’t get to see each other much because they’d been living thousands of miles apart. Meghan reportedly talked on the phone regularly with her mom, whom she once described as “hippie-dippie,” despite only seeing Ragland a few times a year.
When Meghan joined the British royal family, the queen and the rest of “The Firm,” included Ragland. She stood by Meghan at her and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex’s royal wedding in May 2018 and she flew to England to be with Meghan when she gave birth to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019. Ragland even appeared in Archie’s first official photographs alongside the new parents as well as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Now that Meghan, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Archie, have moved to Los Angeles, Calif., the city where Meghan grew up where her mother still resides, Ragland, a former social worker and yoga instructor, will likely be seeing much more of her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Doria Ragland attended Meghan Markle’s first solo event as a royal
Ragland, who calls Meghan by the nickname “Flower,” attended her daughter’s first solo event as a royal in Sept. 2018. She can be seen standing alongside her daughter and son-in-law at a party celebrating the launch of Meghan’s charity cookbook to help survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire.
They spent night before royal wedding together
A day prior to Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding on May 19, 2018, photographers snapped the future Duchess of Sussex arriving at Cliveden House Hotel in Berkshire, England, with her mother. The two were all smiles ahead of the big event.

They watched the closing ceremonies of the 2017 Invictus Games together
After Harry and Meghan made their public debut at the start of the 2017 Invictus Games, the future Duchess of Sussex brought her mom with her to the sporting event’s closing ceremonies on Sept. 30, 2017.
The games were held in the Canadian city of Toronto, Ontario, where Meghan had been living while filming Suits. In addition to Meghan’s mother, her close friends Jessica Mulroney and Markus Anderson, were also by her side for the event.
