Amid their decision to step away from their lives as working members of the British Royal Family, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have been able to take the reigns of their lives back. Though the pair initially hoped to split their time between North America and the U.K. as part-time royals — Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles deemed that an impossibility.

Instead, the Sussexes will press forward as financially independent private citizens who no longer work for the queen. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties. With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.”

Now that their lives are their own (despite their celebrity and global fame) — the duke and the duchess are trying to determine what’s next.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are looking for ways to make money

Though they have a combined net worth of $30 million — $3 million of which will be paid back to the British public for the renovation of their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes will need to figure out how to become truly financially independent.

The pair have already made strides to protect their brand name by trademarking Sussex Royal which experts say could be worth billions of dollars in the long run.  “We could easily compare them to any former presidents,” Royal commentator and author Kristen Meinzer explained to Business Insider. “My mind keeps going to Barack and Michelle Obama and how [they] make money. The reason I compare the two is that they’re already friends with each other and I would put them on the same level in terms of fame.”

Meghan Markle is actively looking for an agent and manager

Prior to marrying into the British royal family — the Duchess of Sussex was a fairly well-known actress with a starring role on the hit USA drama, Suits. It looks like she’s returning to her acting roots — already snagging a voiceover deal with Disney.

“Meghan is actively looking for representation. She has begun outreach,” a source tells Us Weekly. “It can be a manager or an agent, but she’s reaching out to people to find someone to represent her for future professional projects.”

Markle’s Disney paycheck will go to Elephants Without Borders, but an agent or manager could find other non-TV/film projects that uphold the values of the crown while bringing in money. “[Meghan] has no plans to do another show like Suits, but Harry’s been encouraging her to do more voice-over work, writing, producing and directing in her free time,” an insider told US Weekly

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving to Los Angeles for the summer

Markle and Prince Harry often snuck into Los Angeles — the duchess’ hometown to visit her mother, Doria Ragland. However, since show business and Hollywood is in L.A., the pair will be spending some extended time there this summer.

“They have started to look at homes online and are in the process of interviewing security teams,” a source close to the Sussexes told E! News. “They are getting their ducks in a row and seeing if it’s logistically possible. They’ve reached out to people in L.A. and would like to assemble a team of locals.”

Though Canada is lovely as one base for them — the duchess is looking forward to being home. “Meghan would like to be able to do meetings at the house and also be able to host friends and entertain. Those are two things that are important to her.”

We love to see it.
