Since leaving the British royal family officially in early March 2020, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has hit the ground running when it comes to carving out a life for herself. Along with signing a mega-watt deal at Netflix with Prince Harry, the duchess has been using her voice for good.

From chatting with charities both in the U.S. and the U.K. to speaking with various female leaders about the importance of voting, the duchess has been able to use her platform as she sees fit now that she is not confined to certain royal rules.

Meghan’s style has also shifted drastically. In fact, her recent side-ponytail might be the ultimate non-royal look.

Meghan Markle’s style has changed drastically since leaving the royal family

Though she always looked posed and put together, Meghan was no fan of the stringent wardrobe regulations for working royals. In fact, the first time she and Prince Harry were spotted in LA, she was wearing comfy joggers and tennis shoes.

Now that we’ve seen more of the duchess, it appears that she leans toward light, airy casual looks. “Gone are the days where she had to stick to royal dress code, she’s much more comfortable wearing casual clothes — flats, jeans, and sweaters,” an insider told InTouch Weekly. “She hated always having to be dressed to the nines as a royal and the old-fashioned rules and regulations — like wearing dresses below the knee.”

It will be interesting to see what Meghan chooses for in-person events now that she doesn’t have to be so conservative.

Meghan Markle has been doing her hair on her own amid quarantine

Though she is much more relaxed, Meghan is still very deliberate about her style choices since she is being critiqued on a global stage. London-based stylist George Northwood revealed to Daily Mail, “Her hair often looks so effortless but she’s actually the most thoughtful person, even down to the smallest detail like her jewelry.”

Meghan has been doing own hair amid quarantine since salons are still mostly shuttered in LA and it has grown super long. So far, she has been able to style her hair effortlessly with a half-up, half-down look and she even tried something a little different with mermaid curls.

However, her latest look is the ultimate non-royal style.

Meghan Markle’s side ponytail is the perfect non-royal look

Since Meghan’s hair has grown so much that many people assumed she had extensions, she’s been having fun with new ways to style it. Though we’ve seen the duchess wear a sleek back ponytail more than once, her side ponytail look is giving us breezy California girl vibes.

She hopped on a Zoom call with Smart Work Charity to celebrate the first anniversary of the Smart Work Set. The former actor pulled her stunning brunette locks off to the side, draping them over her shoulder in an effort that made her looked effortless to put together.

Now that Meghan has free-reign over her look, we’d love to see her play with some color.
