Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, fell into the royal family when she fell in love with Prince Harry. The couple tied the knot on May 19, 2018, and welcomed their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the following year.

Before she met her prince, Meghan starred in the USA show Suits. In 2018, she shared how the cast bonded off the set.

Meghan grew up in Los Angeles, California. Although she had a knack for politics as a child, she eventually focused on her acting career, per BBC News. Throughout the 2000s, The Duchess of Sussex landed parts in films such as Horrible Bosses, Get Him to the Greek, and Remember Me. In 2011, she booked a starring role in the USA legal drama Suits. In the series, Meghan played Rachel Zane, a paralegal-turned-lawyer. Rachel also had a love affair with Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams).

While on Suits, Meghan spoke to Esquire about her character. The actor told the outlet that she and Rachel have several similarities thanks to the show’s writers.

“I think each of our personalities have really become peppered into our characters,” Meghan said. “I’m a foodie in real life, so the creator made Rachel a foodie. There are certain elements about my sense of humor that have started to become much more of Rachel’s character. We pride ourselves on being well-educated. And we don’t want to sell ourselves short.”

Meghan Markle and her ‘Suits’ cast were close off the set

Meghan worked on Suits for seven seasons. During that time, she traveled to Canada for filming. Back in Feb. 2018, Meghan said the Suits cast often spent their quality time together. She also said that Adams and his family frequently invited her to his home in Canada.

The Duchess of Sussex said bonding with her co-stars off-screen helped the relationships between their characters.

“I think that’s part of why the show has become so successful,” Meghan said. “You can feel that we all get along on- and off-camera. And that chemistry is really prevalent in each of the episodes. But, yeah, off-camera, there we are just playing Apples to Apples and drinking Scotch into the wee hours of the night.”

Meghan left Suits in 2018. During the season 7 finale, she and Adams’ characters got married after multiple years together. The wedding came shortly before Meghan’s real-life nuptials to Prince Harry, which was also a televised event.

‘Suits’ star Patrick Adams supported Meghan and Prince Harry after their Oprah Interview

Several years after they got married, Meghan and Prince Harry decided to step down from their royal family duties. Soon, multiple reports blamed The Duchess of Sussex for her husband’s departure. In March 2021, the couple spoke to Oprah Winfrey about moving to California and distancing themselves from the royals. During the interview, Meghan and Harry made several revelations, including an alleged discussion about their son’s skin.

Once the interview aired, several celebrities supported Meghan via social media. On March 5, Adams tweeted his support for his longtime friend and former co-star.

“Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits,” he wrote. “From day one, she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige, and power accrued.”

“It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, click-baiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world,” he continued. “But I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her.”
