What Meghan told Oprah about her father’s ‘betrayal’

In a clip shared by CBS This Morning, the Duchess of Sussex was asked about the fallout with her father and when she learned he “was working with the tabloids” in staging paparazzi photos.

“If we’re going to use the word betrayal, it’s because when I asked him, when the comms team told us this the story was coming out, we called my dad and I asked him and he said, ‘No, absolutely not,'” Meghan told Oprah. “I said, ‘The institution has never intervened for anything for us, but they can try to go in and kill this story. But if they do this once, we’re not gonna be able to use that same leverage to protect our own kids one day.'”

Meghan continued: “I said, ‘I just need you to tell me and if you tell me the truth, we can help’ and he wasn’t able to do that. And that, for me, has really resonated, especially now as a mother.”

Thomas Markle hits back about mistakes and brings up Harry’s past

Thomas Markle has since responded to his estranged daughter’s interview and while doing so brought up her husband’s past. Markle appeared on Good Morning Britain and said he wished he hadn’t worked with the paparazzi just before the royal wedding.

“I wish I hadn’t done the whole thing,” Markle told the show hosts before adding, “But here’s the other side of the coin. No one took any time to protect any member of our family. We were attacked by the press every day. Nobody was there to care for us, nobody looked after us.”

Meghan’s dad then took a shot at his son-in-law saying: “And in spite of all that, I still apologized, I’m apologizing today again… I also said we all make mistakes… but I’ve never played naked pool and I’ve never dressed up like Hitler.”

Markle’s mention of “Hitler,” refers to when Prince Harry wore a Nazi uniform with a swastika armband.

In 2005, the prince showed up at a get-together with friends in the Nazi costume. Someone at the party snapped a picture of the royal, and soon, the image was slapped all over the tabloids.

Harry later issued an apology (per The Telegraph) stating: “I am very sorry if I caused any offense or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologize.”
