Melissa Joan Hart may be best known for her roles in Clarissa Explains it All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Melissa & Joey, but she also has another important job. She is the mother of three boys. Hart has been pretty forthcoming about the struggles of managing a high-powered career with the responsibilities of motherhood and has openly admitted to needing people around to help her get the job done. When it came to potty training, Hart was on her own, though. Coupled with a partnership deal, she found potty training her eldest child a complicated task, until she used one funny trick to get the job done.

How many kids does Melissa Joan Hart have?

Hart married her husband, Mark Wilkerson, in 2003. The couple met the year before at a gala in Kentucky. Wilkerson, a musician, is best known for his work with Course of Nature, a rock band formed in Wilkerson’s hometown of Enterprise, Alabama. Together, they have three children.

Hart and Wilkerson’s first son, Mason Wilkerson, was born in 2006. Two years later, they welcomed Braydon Wilkerson to the family.  Hart gave birth to her third son, Tucker Wilkerson, in 2012.

How did Melissa Joan Hart potty train her eldest son?

In her book, Melissa Explains It All, the mother of three recalled that she had partnered with Huggies Pull-Ups right around the time she was getting ready to potty train her oldest son. Hart recalled that Mason, then 2-years-old, wasn’t exactly prepared to let go of his diapers, though. After weeks of trying to get the job done, she resorted to less conventional methods of helping Mason use the toilet. She cut a hole in his diaper so that any number 2 business would fall out onto the floor and wouldn’t be contained within the diaper.

According to Hart, the strategy was supposed to convince Mason that his “poop” had gotten too strong for the diaper and would break through it no matter what he did. She recalled in her book that the idea worked, but in a moment of horror, she watched as her son ran in circles, trying to figure out what was happening behind him. After she explained that he was just too strong for his diaper, he gave them up and was officially potty trained. She noted that she left that bit of information out of her official Huggies’ blog.

What is Melissa Joan Hart doing now?

Hart is long removed from the days of potty training, so what has she been up to lately? Since wrapping her show, Melissa & Joey, in 2015, she’s appeared in several TV shows and movies. Most recently appeared in the Netflix Original, No Good Nick, for two seasons.

Hart has also been connected to a Clarissa Explains It All reboot. The show that shot Hart to fame aired on Nickelodeon for five seasons. While the series was announced back in 2018, it was put on hold in 2019, according to Us Magazine. There is no official release date.
