Singer Michael Bublé and pals Jonathan and Drew Scott from Property Brothers helped fulfill Bublé’s grandfather’s dying wish when they renovated his home to give to his caretaker, Minette.

During a press event to promote Kumu’s Sing For The Stars, Bublé revealed it was the Scott brothers who suggested they transform the home. “When he passed away, I had the opportunity to be part of a great moment in my life and the Property Brothers are friends that I had known for years,” he said. “And they had this idea and I was so happy. It was just the most perfect fit.”

“I didn’t want to give the house to anyone,” he admitted. “It just turns out that my grandpa was my best friend in life, and he gave me everything I have. And when he was getting to a point where I knew he wasn’t he was just feeling like, you know, he was old.”

Bublé recalled how his grandfather spoke of his caretaker. “He would just say to me that these caretakers were incredible to him. And he would always say, you know, his dream was to give them a place where they could live and work and that they could send money back home and help their families,” he recounted.

The Property Brothers documented the home’s transformation on Celebrity IOU.

The brothers shared design highlights on the transformation. “Michael remembered all the great times in the family room, which had tons of natural light but needed updates to make the space more functional. We replaced the mountain-side windows with more energy-efficient versions to keep Minette cozy in front of those gorgeous views,” they shared on their website.

Michael Bublé got an MRI after demo

Bublé dished that he went a little too hard on the demo with the Scott brothers. He got overzealous with the sledgehammer. “I don’t know what I did,” Bublé revealed to ET. “It was so bad that I went and got an MRI after.”

“With what I went through with my son, I’m a hypochondriac… I thought, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, I’m dying,’ because there was literally like, a bump,” he said. “It turns out that I’m just out of shape and I’m a wimp and the sledgehammer was too much for me — but I got in there. I refused to not be in there with them.” Bublé’s 8-year-old son was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016. He is now in remission.

He recently visited the home after ‘Property Brothers’ transformation

During the press event, Bublé revealed he had recently visited the home. “I was just over there yesterday with Minette and I’m so happy that we did it,” he said. “Because every time I go there and I talk to them, I just know how proud my grandpa would be, and how much it would mean to him and keeps his memory alive for me. So there’s a lot of honoring that from me.”

“It was tough for me to get through it, that’s for sure,” he shared. “But so great. I’m lucky and blessed. You know, how blessed am I to be able to do something like that?”
