The former couple had been on and on again for the better part of a decade. However, they’d had a few bumps along the way. When they eventually wed in Dec. 2018, most people thought it was forever.

Fans were shocked by Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s divorce

Cyrus and Hemsworth met back in 2009 when they were just teens on the set of the romance movie, The Last Song. Almost from the beginning, they were joined at the hip. However, as the dynamics around them began to shift, their relationship did as well.

Cyrus ended her stint as Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel and drastically changed her image. She was increasingly open about her sexuality and how she felt controlled as a child star. It caused a ton of friction between the star and Hemsworth. Though they tried to make things work, eventually, it just fell apart.

“She just got to the point where she didn’t want to hold back about who she is,” an insider told People. “She wants to be true to herself. Being with Liam, this was just not possible. For them to be happy, she had to change as a person too much. She knows not being with Liam will make her happier in the long run.”

Miley Cyrus moved on from Liam Hemsworth quickly

Before their split was announced, Cyrus was spotted kissing her then-girlfriend, Kaitlynn Carter, while vacationing in Italy. Cyrus and The Hills star embarked on a whirlwind and a very public romantic relationship. However, it crashed and burned after just six weeks.

Shortly after splitting with Carter, Cyrus moved on and was in a year-long relationship with the Australian singer, Cody Simpson. Though Cyrus and Simpson are no longer together, they are still good friends.

Miley Cyrus says she didn’t spend too much time crying over her divorce

Now, over a year later, Cyrus is revealing how she healed from her divorce. “I’ve gone through a lot of trauma and loss in the last couple years: I had a house fire in Malibu where I lost my house and went through a divorce recently, my grandma super close with, I lost,” she said on the Scandinavian talk show Skavlan via Hollywood Life. She continued,

In a way, I didn’t spend too much time crying over it and it wasn’t because I was cold or trying to avoid feeling something but it was just because I wasn’t going to change it. I tried to just continue to be active in what I can control, otherwise you just start feeling like you’re trapped.

We’re glad Cyrus is doing well.
