Miley Cyrus Explains How Her Relationship With Liam Hemsworth ‘Felt Like a Relapse Every Time I’d Go Back’
Miley Cyrus opened up about her marriage to Liam Hemsworth during an interview for The Joe Rogan Experience, comparing their relationship to a pacifier that she needed for comfort. Cyrus and Rogan spoke about how love is like an addiction and how that complicates the ability to move on.
Miley Cyrus explained why her relationship with Liam Hemsworth was like a pacifier
The couple fell in love on the set of The Last Song, dated, got engaged, called off their engagement, got back together, got engaged again and married, and got divorced.
In discussing love, Cyrus shared her thoughts about why her time with Hemsworth was like a pacifier.
“Actually I called the love of mine who I was with and we got divorced, it was almost like a pacifier,” she explained to Rogan. “It was that thing that I just needed, not because we were in love anymore, but because of the comfort and because my brain said, ‘oh, this feels better. This is comforting.’”
She continued, “But actually, knowing that I was giving in to an addiction made me feel way worse. I had the hangover. Next day, OK, we sleep together, next day, we wake up, I’m totally hungover. It felt like a relapse every time I’d go back.”
Miley Cyrus discussed how love makes you ‘feel like you’re high on drugs’
Rogan and Cyrus talked about love, with the singer admitting, “In the most stressful times in my life” when she didn’t want to lean on drugs or bad food, she looked for love. “I’m going to reach for someone to love me,” she confessed.
“The beginning part of love is the most powerful drug you’re ever going to take,” Rogan said, with Cyrus agreeing, saying, “It’s like cocaine.”
“I had a tendency to need someone in my life at all times,” Cyrus said.
“When you love someone, the first couple of months you do feel like you’re high on drugs,” she added. “It’s the same drip.”
Miley Cyrus shared the reason her divorce sucked so much
Going through a divorce publicly “sucked,” according to Cyrus, as she explained how she was under the microscope during that time. People didn’t have the full story and made assumptions, according to the singer.
“I recently just went through a very public divorce that [expletive] sucked,” the singer explained. “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way we used to anymore. That’s OK, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing, and just all those stories.”
She continued, “It’s just amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there is no gap in time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this. It’s not ‘One day you were happy on the carpet and the next day you were making out with your friend in Italy.'”
“There was a lot of time in between that that you didn’t see,” Cyrus explained.
