Deadpool’s success is certainly reflected in Ryan Reynolds’s paycheck although it wasn’t always. Learn just how much the actor made in Deadpool ahead.

How much money did Ryan Reynolds make in ‘Deadpool’?

Before Deadpool, the 42-year-old Canadian born actor was, as The Hollywood Reporter put it, “ice cold.” On the heels of two flops, 2011’s Green Lantern and 2013’s R.I.P.D., Reynolds needed to redeem himself. And redeem himself he did.

Reynolds found himself playing a wisecracking superhero, Deadpool, which fans immediately responded to at the box office. With a $58 million budget, Deadpool grossed $783.1 million, according to Forbes, becoming a huge success.

The overwhelmingly positive response to the film landed Reynolds the No. 15 spot on the publication’s list of highest paid actors in 2017. In 2016, he reportedly earned $21.5 million.

Although Reynolds’s Deadpool salary didn’t contribute very much to his bottom line.

The actor took home a few million bucks for playing Deadpool, $2 million to be exact. However, his paycheck grew because of the film’s success as he’s said to be the only actor in the film “eligible for box-office bonuses and backend compensation.”

How much money did Ryan Reynolds make in ‘Deadpool 2’?

It’s rare that sequels outperform originals. However, Deadpool 2 did just that. The sequel to Deadpool out-earned the original by almost $3 million at the box office, grossing $785 million.

The exact amount of Reynolds’s Deadpool 2 paycheck hasn’t been made public but we can assume the actor had a lot of leverage after the success of the first film.

On it’s the way to becoming a franchise, Deadpool 3 is reportedly in the works, as confirmed by Reynolds himself in an interview.

What is the net worth of Ryan Reynolds?

The actor has a reported net worth of $75 million. He’s made the bulk of his cash from acting gigs but also has another healthy income stream. He became a “significant owner” in Aviation Gin, a Portland, Oregon, based gin distillery, and subsequently the face of the company.

As Forbes said, the actor is “an endorser who owns the endorsed product,” and he and Aviation Gin are making big bucks because of it. His wife, actress Blake Lively, has also endorsed the product even though she doesn’t drink.

Sales are “up triple digits in most of our major markets” because of the endorsements by Reynolds, according to Joen Choe, the Vice President of Marketing, at Aviation Gin.

Ryan Reynolds once made $150 a day and felt like a ‘gazillionaire’

Reynolds wasn’t always pulling in six-figure salaries. In an interview with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, Reynolds revealed he made $150 a day playing the character of Billy Simpson on the TV show, Fifteen, in 1991.

“For me, I thought I was, like, a gajillionaire,” Reynolds said in the 2016 interview. “For $150 a day, it was like a dream come true.”

The actor on playing Deadpool: ‘I feel like I was sort of born for it’

The success of Deadpool hasn’t been lost on Reynolds. “It’s the role I feel most privileged to have in my entire career,” he said in a 2018 interview.  “I feel like I was sort of born for it. I love Deadpool. It’s the miracle of the mask.”

More than a few times, Reynolds has made the same sentiment on Instagram.

He shared two pictures of himself trying on the Deadpool suit for the first time, writing in the caption, “2015. First time trying on the suit. It was so clean back then. So innocent. We both were. #deadpool2.”

In another post on X-Men Day, he took a more serious tone while still maintaining his signature wit.

“Happy #XMenDay. Since the moment I first put on the suit, it’s been the greatest gig of my life. Even “Practice Deadpool” in 2009. #NotReallyAnXMan #XPerson,” he wrote.
