The Moon Knight cast filmed several months in Budapest where Oscar Isaac, younger brother Mike, and Ethan Hawke went a little wild one night when they took magic mushrooms. Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight in the Disney+ series) and Ethan Hawke (Arthur Harrow in the show) might stand as enemies on screen, but they became fast friends in real life. And during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Isaac revealed details of their adventure, hilariously saying that they “danced with God.”

‘Moon Knight’ filmed in a familiar desert for Oscar Isaac; ‘Dune’ and ‘Star War: The Rise of Skywalker’ shot scenes there, too

While projects like Scenes from a Marriage place actors Oscar Isaac, Jessia Chastain, and Michael Aloni in a domestic setting, Isaac has found himself in projects that place him in the desert more often than he can count.

And hilariously, it always happens to be the same desert.

“We shot mostly, like, seven months in Budapest and a couple weeks in Jordan in the same desert where we shot The Rise of Skywalker and Dune. [We filmed] in the Wadi Rum desert,” Isaac told Stephen Colbert about the Moon Knight filming on The Late Show. “That’s my old stomping grounds.”

For Oscar Isaac, Star Wars, Dune, and Moon Knight brought him back to familiar territory. He stressed how beautiful he found the area. However, he would often find sand in “every crevice,” the Marvel star laughed.

“We were there during COVID, so everything was shut down, It was kind of a ghost town, but it was still really beautiful. Ethan Hawke, who plays the villain, he’s incredible in it. We would go running together and jogging.”

Ethan Hawke, Oscar Isaac, wife Elvira Lind, and other family members spent some time together in Budapest. However, after their families left, Isaac, Hawke, and Isaac’s brother got into some not-so-legal fun.

Oscar Isaac confessed to doing mushrooms with Ethan Hawke during ‘Moon Knight’ filming

Colbert mentioned that he heard about how Isaac and Hawke “indulged in a little mind expansion” off the Marvel Studios set. Isaac smirked at the memory, saying, “Oh, right, yeah, we danced with God.”

It definitely wasn’t the kind of story you would find on Oscar Isaac’s Instagram or social media.

“It was my brother and Ethan. And we were at a house, and our families had just left, and we had the weekend there. It was at a place called Lake Balaton, which is just outside of Budapest. It’s so beautiful,” Isaac recalled. “And we got our hands on a little psilocybin; magic mushrooms.”

The adventure of the hero and the Moon Knight villain actors brought plenty of giggles, music, and even a trip to a nearby park.

“Yeah, we had some mushrooms and listened to the Phosphorescent album,” Isaac said. “We laid down and giggled for a long time listening to music and then went to a park and played some football a little bit.”

The ‘Moon Knight’ star admitted his memories of the experience could be very different from what happened

Colbert asked if the Moon Knight co-stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke played the international version of football since they had their adventure in Budapest. Isaac laughed that they should have, “but we’re also high on mushrooms.”

“We really don’t know what we were playing,” Isaac said. “It’s true, we didn’t know what we were doing.”

Colbert circled back around to the “danced with God” bit, hilariously asking what God thought of the experience.

“He wasn’t into it,” Isaac laughed. “It’s one of those things where either it’s going to be fun, or it’s going to go really badly. But it ended up being really fun. Celebrities, they’re just like us, right?”
