‘Nancy Drew’ returns to The CW in January

Every year, The CW debuts its primetime lineup in the fall. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the network’s shows were forced to halt and delay production. The 2020 fall schedule was pushed to early 2021, with shows like The Flash and Riverdale premiering in January and February.

Luckily, Nancy Drew fans won’t have to wait much longer. Season 2 of The CW drama premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 9 p.m. EST, right after the season 5 premiere of Riverdale

New episodes will air weekly every Wednesday. And they’ll be available to stream the next day on The CW App and the network’s website.

What happened in season 1?

The first season of Nancy Drew introduced viewers to the titular character, played by Kennedy Mc Ann. Following the death of her mother, Nancy ditches college and moves back to her sleepy hometown.

A brilliant sleuth at heart, Nancy is pulled into solving the mysterious death of a wealthy socialite. With her new friends George (Leah Lewis), Bess (Maddison Jaizani), and Ace (Alex Saxon), she links the woman’s death to Lucy Sable, the dead girl whose ghost is haunting her.

Eventually, Nancy discovers that Lucy was her real mother and that her parents secretly adopted her after Lucy jumped off a cliff. She also learns that the man she despises, Ryan Hudson (Riley Smith), is her biological father.

But by the end of the season, Nancy and her friends find themselves facing a new supernatural foe. They call upon a sea spirit called the Aglaeca. And when Nancy cuts ties with the spirit, it curses the entire group.

Season 2 of ‘Nancy Drew’ will pick up with The Aglaeca

When Nancy Drew returns, Nancy and the gang will still be dealing with the Aglaeca’s curse. They’ve all seen visions of how they’ll die, and until they figure out a way to stop the creature, their gruesome fates are sealed.

“Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and the Drew Crew are still reeling from witnessing the visions of their deaths,”  the CW synopsis for Season 2 reads.   “They realize even more so now that they need to come up with a plan to stop the Aglaeca before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Detective Tamura (guest star Ryan-James Hatanaka “Nurses”) shows up at The Claw to bring Nancy in for questioning as she is now a suspect in a mysterious comatose girl’s assault.”
