Born Dec. 11, 1978, in Chilhowie, Virginia, Eric Wayne McClure debuted in NASCAR minor league Xfinity Series in 2003 at the Rockingham Speedway, finishing 26th.

The following year, he made his NASCAR debut at Talladega, placing 26th again. He continued attempting to qualify for NASCAR races without much luck but landed three stars and a Hefty sponsorship in 2006.

The driver returned to the Xfinity Series, bringing his sponsor, and drove for a couple of different teams. In 2012, he was involved in a car accident while racing, resulting in a concussion and internal bruising.

After being sidelined for four races, McClure ended the season with his new career-best, 16th. In 2013, McClure began the season with a personal best of 7th but had to step away due to acute renal failure. After recovering, he attempted to compete in the Daytona 500 but didn’t qualify and didn’t return.

In 2004, the driver married Miranda, and the couple welcomed seven daughters throughout their 14-year marriage, including Maybreigh Elizabeth (14), Maryleigh Isabella (12), Mirabella Rileigh (10), Merritt Hetteigh Mae (9), Myanna Brookleigh (7), Meraline Everleigh (5), and Melania (4).

In Feb. 2018, McClure was arrested on a domestic violence charge when he reportedly choked and hit his wife in front of their kids. According to his estranged wife, one of their daughters called 911.

Two years later, after multiple delays, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic violence and was ordered to 12-month probation. In Oct. 2019, he began dating dental assistant and phlebotomist Keira Brinegar Tibbs, who has two children from a previous relationship, and he proposed in Sept. 2020.

She honored him after his death by posting a couple of pictures of them on Facebook, captioning it, “Eric, I will love you until my last breath…. please wait for me until then. I love you more.”
