Gibbs has experienced a significant amount of loss over the years. One of his early losses is agent Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander) during season 2, episode 23. This was tough for Gibbs because Kate was shot right in front of him. Gibbs felt a tremendous amount of guilt after her death. He wondered why he wasn’t shot instead of her and even apologized at her funeral.

Another painful loss for the NCIS team is MI-6 Agent Clayton Reeves (Duane Henry). Clayton is shot and killed during season 15, episode 21, titled “One Step Forward.” He is killed while trying to protect Abby (Pauley Perrette) from a mugger.

The agent most like Gibbs

Which agent is most like Gibbs? The answer is revealed during NCIS season 15, episode 11, titled “High Tide.” At one point during the episode, Jack Sloane (Maria Bello) and Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) discuss Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and the unusual way he works. Vance expresses concern about Torres’ tendency to disregard orders and instead go with his gut, but Sloane reminds him that someone else on the team works the same way–Gibbs.

Vance concludes Gibbs and Torres are a lot alike. They don’t always pay attention to the rules, but most of the time they achieve a positive outcome. Gibbs and Torres have been able to solve difficult cases by thinking outside the box. They learned that in their line of work being a rule follower isn’t always the best course of action.

Torres and Bishop go undercover so they can catch the criminals involved in a drug ring. Torres and Bishop get too close to an explosion and go to the hospital. Unfortunately, Torres disobeys direct orders and leaves Bishop at the hospital so he can visit the store where one of the criminals works. He asks for a job so he can get inside information and bring down the drug ring. As you would probably expect, Vance is very unhappy with Torres’ defiance.

What’s next for Gibbs and his team

There’s a lot in store next season. NCIS Season 18 will show viewers the back story of how Gibbs and Ducky met. A case from 20 years ago resurfaces and sends them down memory lane. We’ll also see an episode focused on Tim McGee (Sean Murray) and his wife, Delilah. We haven’t seen much of the couple lately, so it will be nice to catch up with them. Finally, the opioids storyline will make a comeback. There were some loose ends left from previous episodes, but TV Line hints viewers will finally see a resolution to this mystery.
