‘NCIS’: What to Expect in Season 18
We’ll see how Ducky and Gibbs met
One exciting episode that’s coming in season 18 is the backstory of how Ducky and Gibbs first met. NCIS Executive Producer Frank Cardea tells TV Insider that viewers will learn more about the duo’s beginnings after they receive a case that transports them back 20 years. The two have a good working relationship, so it would be nice to see how they got to that point. During the early episodes of NCIS, we get a peek into how well they work together.
During NCIS Season 1, Episode 2, Ducky helps Gibbs after he destroys his phone. Every year on the anniversary of Gibbs’ divorce from his third ex-wife, she calls him repeatedly. This is why Gibbs decided to destroy his phone by placing it in a jar of paint thinner.
Fortunately, the NCIS finance department steps in and sends Gibbs a new phone. Since Gibbs doesn’t know how to block calls, Ducky attaches a note to the new phone. Inside the note, he makes Gibbs aware of call blocking and suggests he learn how to use the feature.
Gibbs will be more vulnerable
If you thought Gibbs’ opening up to McGee during the NCIS Season 17 finale was just a one-time deal, you’re wrong. Cardea told TV Insider we’ll likely see more of this side of Gibbs next season. “The Gibbs this past season, maybe the past two seasons, is a character that’s been opening up, and [Gina Monreal, NCIS co-executive producer], took it to a whole new level in this episode, that he’s going to start talking about his feelings,” Cardea told TV Insider. “We’re seeing a softer side to Gibbs, for sure.”
There will be an episode focused on McGee and Delilah
If you’ve been missing scenes with McGee and Delilah, the wait is over. Cardea also reveals there will be a new episode next season that focuses on the married couple. We haven’t seen their kids in a while, so we wonder if we’ll also get to see how the children are doing and what they’re up to.
The opioids storyline will return
Another storyline that will be revisited is the opioids. The last time this story took center stage, Fornell needed help with his daughter, Emily, who had an overdose. There was one emotional scene during NCIS Season 16, Episode 24, where Fornell pointed a gun at a doctor, ordering him to save his daughter’s life.
Gibbs spent time searching for the person who was responsible for distributing the drugs to Fornell’s daughter. Gibbs hinted in season 17 that he was still helping Fornell. Something was brewing, but Gibbs wouldn’t give details when Sloane asked about it. It looks like NCIS Season 18 is going to be just as action-packed as the season before it. We can’t wait for the new season to begin.
