‘Locke & Key’ Season 2 dropped on Netflix in October

Locke & Key follows the titular Locke family and their adventures with the magical keys hidden around their home in Matheson, Massachusetts. In season 2, Locke kids Kinsey (Emilia Jones), Tyler (Connor Jessup), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) had to stop the demon Dodge (Laysla De Oliveira) from using the keys in her ultimate plan for domination.

The kids banished Dodge from their world and started returning to normal. However, they will now face an even bigger threat in the upcoming episodes. The sinister Revolutionary War soldier, Frederick Gideon, has returned to Matheson for revenge.

‘Locke & Key’ will come to an end after season 3

Locke & Key filmed seasons 2 and 3 back to back. Season 3 production wrapped last summer, a few months before season 2 dropped. Now, Deadline reports that the series will end after season 3.

Some fans might feel concerned about Locke & Key getting a proper conclusion since the final episodes were already filmed before the cancellation. However, Cuse and Averill assured that Netflix had always planned for three seasons. In a statement to Deadline, the showrunners said this plan felt “ideal” for the story.

“Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” the statement read. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”

Cuse and Averill also confirmed that Locke & Key‘s final eight episodes are in post-production. However, they could not reveal a release date for season 3, other than stating it should arrive in 2022.

The final episodes will pit the Lockes against a ‘new, dangerous’ threat

Netflix hasn’t revealed too much about Locke & Key Season 3 yet. However, in a November blog post, the streaming service did share a synopsis:

“The Locke family uncovers more magic within Keyhouse, while a new threat — the most dangerous one yet — looms in Matheson with plans of his own for the keys. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), Locke & Key is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakable bonds that define family.”
