Netflix premiered the third and final installment in The Kissing Booth franchise with Joey King, Jacob Elordi, and Joel Courtney returning in their leading roles as Elle Evans, Noah Flynn, and Lee Flynn. The 2021 movie continues the story as Elle decides whether to attend Harvard with Noah or Berkeley with her best friend, Noah. The Kissing Booth 3 had a surprise ending that fans are somewhat unsure of what it means. The ending leaves little room for continuation, and a fourth installment is not in the books.

Elle must decide between love and friendship

The Kissing Booth had Elle fall madly in love with her best friend’s rebellious older brother, Noah. According to their friendship rules, dating the hot older brother is forbidden. It all works out in the end as Lee uncovers the truth and realizes that Elle’s happiness is more important. The story continued in the sequel but with some complications as Noah goes off to college, leaving Elle feeling insecure in their relationship.

Between a dance competition, Lee and his relationship drama, and a new possible love interest for Elle, it all works out in the end. Elle and Noah stay together, but Elle is faced with deciding between Harvard with Noah or Berkeley with Lee as they always planned.

The third Netflix movie installment finished off the stories of the lead characters but with some significant bumps in the road. Elle tries to have one last fun summer before telling Lee she decided on Harvard. But her relationship with Noah turns sour as Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) still has feelings for Elle. Elle soon feels lost in what she wants for her life.

What does the ending of ‘The Kissing Booth 3’ mean?

Fans might be shocked at how the Netflix movie ends as it time jumps six years into the future. Before this, Noah breaks up with Elle over the fear that she chose Harvard for him and it not being what she wants for herself. Dealing with heartbreak, Elle makes amends with the people she cares about and decides to do video game design at the University of Southern California.

Six years into the future, Elle, Noah, Lee, and Rachel (Meganne Young) reunite at the Charity Fair. This is presumably the first time Elle and Noah see each other since their break up, and Noah suggests a motorcycle ride when he’s back in town. Fans see this scene play out in the movie’s final moments. According to Digital Spy, it is unclear what this means or if they will get back together.

A fourth movie is unlikely

While fans may hope The Kissing Booth 3‘s final scene could mean a new installment, it is not likely that it will happen. According to Cosmopolitan, Netflix promoted the movie as the “third” and “final” movie in the franchise. To further solidify the franchise’s end, Jacob Elordi told Vanity Fair, “This is really the last kiss.”

The third movie finished off the story of Elle and Noah well as they are still on good terms despite their rough breakup. Elle even takes up motorcycle riding, and she and Noah are seen riding together as the sun sets along the beach. Each character grew into their own and who they wanted to be before remeeting.
